Flip likely had pulmonary fibrosis and was treated accordingly. In the end, his little lungs just could not help him oxygenate well anymore and we needed to relieve his suffering.

He fought as hard as he could, but the awful disease attacking his little body took over.
I never expected to fall so hard for him. He was "another brown chihuahua" who hardly got a second look at the rescue. He had a bum leg that needed to be amputated. People weren't banging down the door to adopt a tri-pod chi, who had a snarky side. But the more I got to know him, the more he showed me how much he needed me ... and I'm so happy he chose me.
I didn't even get 4 months with him, but I filled his days with as much love and adventure as I could. He went to the beach for a sunset, he put his paws in the snow (that wasn't his favorite), he was my guest at wineries and restaurants, we hiked with friends, he met Santa ... he was my little buddy and we went everywhere together.
I'm thankful for every moment we had together. Every nap. Every cuddle. Every day. I held him for hours today while he got some rest and had a good dream. I miss him terribly, and I hope he knows how much he was loved.
Til we meet again, be a good boy over that bridge, my little Flipperdoodle ❤️ I love you and I miss you."

Tribute: On Monday, January 14th, we fulfilled our promise to 12 year old Lulu.
We just rescued Lulu it seems. She had a ruptured mass that we removed and the biopsy report indicated that it had been fully excised and curative. We placed her with a loving family immediately. She was so sweet and spread her joy to everyone. Dogs, thank goodness they don't let us miss a moment.
At the end of last month her mom noticed bumps on her tummy popping up in the same place. It was shocking and devastating. The cancer was back and it had spread. Lulu no longer had an appetite and declined before her very eyes.
It wasn't what her mom had planned, but she handled Lulu's diagnosis and end of life care with grace. Alex has signed up to be an FFF volunteer to help more in need! It reminds me of this quotation, "Life doesn't give you the people you want:
It gives you the people you need:
to help you, .... to love you, to leave you, and to help make you into the person you are meant to be." In a dog sense, of course!
"It was not the easiest of days, but Lulu got to enjoy one last puppuccino, go to the dog park for some fresh air, and get A LOT of cuddles with momma. I can’t believe how much this little lady changed my life in just 10 weeks. Thank you again, Frosted Faces, for giving me the opportunity to know and love my Lulu girl. She was the sweetest and happiest girl, and I am so lucky to have had the time we did.
My heart hurts, but I’m glad to know she is no longer in pain. She went quietly at home in my arms, and I am incredibly grateful that I got to be with her to keep her comfortable. Rest In Peace, my sweet girl. I will miss you terribly."

Tribute: On February 16th, Tara fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Tipper.
She shared,
"I guess it's taken me a little bit to be ready to write this, Tipper passed on February 16th. She had heart failure and cancer with a large inoperable tumor on her abdomen and spots in her lungs, of which wasn't sensible to operate early on because she had congestive heart failure too. The tumor seemed to cause very little discomfort, and only because it was so big. The night before her passing she began to have a little trouble breathing, some weesing and coughing but she feel asleep just fine and did not have any issues sleeping through the night. The following morning she was weesing a bit but I knew it was time because she wouldn't take a treat. I contacted FFF and made an appointment for the late afternoon. I put Tipper on a bed in the sun for a few minutes and when I picked her up she passed in my arms. I'm grateful she had less than one hard day and was shocked that her passing happened so quickly.
On October 20th, 2019 a friend sent a photo of Tipper from petfinder, a literal picture of a computer screen. I had always wanted a Chinese Crested and had been lucky enough to adopt Tipper's sister in 2017 and I knew Tipper would make a great addition to our pack. I immediately put in an application and was able to bring her home the following Saturday. Everything just sort of fell into place...my roommate and I just happened to be going camping with my dogs and Frosted Faces just happened to be on our way home. So, we stopped by the open house even though I didn't have an official appointment. I popped in and introduced myself and Kelly said, 'Let's get your dog.' Her words lit up my heart, 'My dog.'
For the very first moments Tipper was so perfect. She had had a mammary mass removed the day before but was so upbeat and ready for anything. She slept in my lap on the way home and immediately explored her new home and yard and then found her favorite spot, cuddling with mom.
Tipper was truly an in the moment type, she loved everything and everyone she came across. She became part of the pack very quickly. She and her Chinese Crested sister became inseparable in a matter of days.
Tipper came home about six months before the pandemic started. I was so lucky that the stay at home orders gave me so much time with her, Tipper was always by my side.
Tipper had some health issues and became a tripod but nothing got in her way. She spent every day enjoying life to the fullest. Tipper's two most favorite things were eating and cuddles. She was a very active cuddler, she would burrow into your arms, burry her head into your chest, and look into your eyes waiting for kisses and pets.
I will be forever grateful for the time I got to spend with her and I'm so lucky to have been able to be Tipper's mom."

We did a splenectomy on Kora early last year and then another surgery to remove a mast cell tumor from her belly. When the news came this month that she had a giant liver mass bleeding into her abdomen now, it was not surprising much too final.
They shared,
"Miss Kora was such a character and she is greatly missed already! We changed so much of our routine and habits to work around her little quirks and now that makes us miss her presence even more! She was the most vocal dog in the funniest way. She was so excitable about things and would give us “woo woo’s” when we got home, fed her dinner, or picked up a leash.
Kora had separation anxiety so it was really good timing that we adopted her right before quarantine started. We had a lot of quality time with her over the past 15 months, which she definitely appreciated. I keep picturing her running to greet me from across the yard when I would get home from work. She was a pretty slow mover most of the time but when she was excited she was quick!
Kora was not what we were looking for when we were first looking into getting another dog but she was exactly what we didn’t know we needed. She made our walks slower so that she could smell every little thing, yet our car trips were way more hectic as she bolted across the car and bellowed for what seemed like no reason at all. Bed time was mandatory because she said so.
She brought such joy to our lives, even though it was for a short time. We wish we had more time with her but we’re grateful for the time we had."

Tribute: On November 2nd, we fulfilled our promise to Penelope.
Penelope has a neat story. She was found running astray in Ramona a few times and impounded. The last time, Aimee found her, and as always we instructed her to bring her to the shelter to give the family an opportunity to claim her. When no one came, we exited her. We did dental surgery, removed mammary masses, and she healed at FFF. She was a volunteer favorite.
Soon Aimee began to volunteer at FFF to visit her treasure that she had found, little P! As fairytales would have it, Aimee decided to adopt Penelope and continues to volunteer at FFF!
"My fur child Penelope crossed the Rainbow Bridge last night. I am truly heartbroken, but so grateful for the time that I had with my little love bug. She was seriously the best! She was as sweet as can be. She was funny. Loved all other animals. Was definitely a mama’s girl! She was seriously my shadow. She had to be near me at all times. Which I loved.
She was a great sister to her brother, Cooper. I could tell she wasn’t very familiar with getting kisses when I first got her. She was like what the heck are you doing lady?! Lol. But she eventually loved them and would gently paw at my face for more. She had the best little wiggle butt around. She was quite the snorter! Would snore too, but it was her little snorts that I couldn’t get enough of. I could seriously go on and on about her.
P was the toughest little girl that I have ever met!! Every doctor that saw her agreed. They were in disbelief at how sick she actually was because she didn’t show it. She was so brave. Ended up having Cushing’s disease, diabetes, and renal failure. They think she could have maybe had cancer.
Nobody could truly understand why she got so sick so fast. Her numbers were crazy high yesterday. Even though she had been being treated for a while at that point. The vet said that she was hurting and definitely didn’t feel good. They tried and she fought hard, but they just couldn’t get my baby girl better. I always promised myself that I would never keep my fur babies around for my own benefit. I would never let them suffer. Thankfully the vet let me be with P at the end. Penelope’s grandma was with her as well. Absolutely heartbreaking, but no way I would have not been there with my girl.
I am so happy that I take so many photos/videos of my fur babies! I have approximately 10k photos/videos in my phone and they are all mostly my kids! I love that I have so many memories to look back on. I wish I had more time with P, but will always cherish the time that we had together. I’ll never forget my sweet girl. She stole a big piece of my heart and that will be hers to keep forever. "

Tribute: On February 6th, Elaine fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Eunice after battling liver cancer and its metastasis.
Elaine shared,
"Just seeing Eunice's picture online, I felt a connection...and after all, it was Adopt a Rescue Dog day, so Eunice had a new home! I was told that Eunice did as she PLEASED. That was true and gave many a challenge, but she did become an enjoyable sweet companion. It was only with the support and love from a wide variety of soccer teammates, hiking buddies, neighbors, walkers, sitters, friends and family as well as Carol her support volunteer, that she began to trust her new world...even with children in it. Nonetheless, Eunice kept her trademark persistence to follow her own wishes throughout her last senior years and I will always remember the stories that resulted from our encounters.
I appreciate the overall kindness that was given to Eunice (and me) at her departure. Everyone was so gracious. It is very thoughtful to have the private area for the final procedure. I was fortunate to have a neighbor of children who played with Eunice offer to drive me and be there to access staff at appropriate times. Thought it could be done alone, but I was wrong. It gave me time to hold Eunice on the way to Ramona; she never happily allowed me to do that. I don't think she was cognizant at that point. Encourage a companion to accompany the owner, if possible. I didn't have time to even contact Carol Leary but she was at the facility when I picked up Eunice's remains.
That is a beautifully packaged final tribute of ashes, name plaque, note and paw print. I will be doing the Camino Walk in Spain and plan to bring along some of her ashes. She loved to walk doing 2 hours four times a week with me during the pandemic, going on hikes as well as joining to soccer practice runs.
She was a challenge though. There was no doubt from day one that she was going to sleep on the bed...on my side. It took MONTHS each nite to convince her that it was not her space. The stories go on...
You know I am most thankful for your creation of the FFF medical unit staffed with caring trained individuals. Hopefully my donation will help that grow.
Miss that Eunice! Everyone who knew her has been saddened by her absence."

"It is with sadness and a breaking heart that I share Bitsy's unexpected passing on September 22nd. Early Monday morning she threw up her dinner from the night before. Later in the day she started having diarrhea. I called the vet and they had no openings but suggested Cerenia. We got Cerenia down her and she seemed better. I called the vet again and was told no appts were available, and to call the next day or go to the ER if she got worse. When we went to bed that night she seemed better and slept next to me. I petted her most of the night and loved her. When I woke up early, I found she had passed in my arms. She was not quite 11.
Bitsy aka Pacquita, was my scaredy girl who had recently become my brave little Boo after 2 years of hiding under our stove, chairs, and the dining room table. At FF I chose her because she was being chased in the littles yard and was afraid.
She was asking for uppies on my lap, our couch, and even for treats from out son. She loved running on her short little legs to the front door with our pack of 4 littles to bark at the mailman or people walking by. She howled with our Tilly for no reason.
She adored belly rubs and would flip on her back constantly. She would also growl at my husband when he picked her up. She ate like a champ and would turn circles when meals were ready. She could never use the doggy door but when the door was open she ran like crazy to go out. We carried her much of the time. She did use the doggy ramp but needed a running start to jump up the 3 inch back door opening.
She was so special with her luxating patellas and sweet face. Her kisses were rare but so, so sweet. I miss her so terribly and will never assume again that a pup is alright.
Losing her has left such a hole in my heart and in our house. Nothing is the same. Good by sweet girl. I love you. Until I see you again.

On March 28th, Justin and Holly fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Opal.
"Opal was the precious Puggy girl amongst her numerous male cousins for 26 wonderful, adventurous months. Her Papa, Justin, was blessed to adopt the second Pug who shared his life from FFF in January, 2020 shortly before the world changed due to Covid. At the age of 10, Justin had his best girlfriend Suey for 17 years. So the second love of his life was of course, a Pug. Opal came home a skinny little thing, but shortly became the lucious rotund beauty she was meant to be. Every person and every animal was a welcome friend to her- and as Justin said, 'Even people who don’t like dogs love Opal.'
She and her Papa were so devoted to each other, they went everywhere and did everything as a couple Her comfort, silliness, snorts, snuggles, softest fur and loudest demands were a Godsend during the Pandemic isolation. Opal loved her walkies, stroller cruises, car rides, camping trips, beach runs, ruffled butt dresses, fuzzy beds, ALL foods, fur family, and most of all, her Papa. No one has ever been loved and appreciated more than sweet Opal, and never will.
When she suddenly started declining in January 2022, FFF and the kindest Dr. Russell helped her carry on living her best life possible so there was precious time to shower her with everything she deserved, and prepare our hearts for what was to come.
On Monday, March 28th at 9:45 AM, Opal left this earth after her little body couldn’t fight the disease that took away her ability to bang furiously on doors, bark endlessly for food or treats, snort and sneeze in our faces for pets and cuddles, squiggle upside down for joy, and ramble around everywhere like a miniature tank. The memories and love will eventually replace the pain of losing you, but for now…. we carry on."

Tribute: On April 9th we fulfilled our promise to Mambo.
Last month Mambo had eaten three rocks causing a blockage. We didn't know why he had done that that, but once we got inside Dr.VanMaele discovered a liver mass and an intestinal mass that would soon cause a blockage. It was likely that Mambo ate those rocks as a result of pica, but we couldn't be sure. He was bright and wagging his tail going into surgery, and his mom opted to move forward by resecting part of his intestines, removing the rocks, and removing the small liver mass. Unfortunately, Mambo didn't get as much time as we all hoped, but without a doubt in the end, he was loved!
"I'm very sorry to tell you that Mambo passed away last night. He was doing really well post surgery. We went for walks, and he always had a huge appetite. He wasn't a barker but would make a very cute seal pup noise when he was excited for food. I was so happy to be able to bring him home to Toronto. The drive went so smoothly and he seemed to be doing fine. We went for some walks, and when he would get tired I would carry him.
I really hoped and wished that Mambo would beat the odds and live long enough to enjoy a summer together, maybe even a whole year. I knew that he didn't have a good prognosis and that based on the findings during his surgery, they didn't know what else might be lurking in his small and fragile frame. The vet in San Diego said he could have a week, he could have longer. We just didn't know. When I decided to go ahead with Mambo's surgery in February my goal was to give him quality time, realizing the quantity might be limited. Although I had him for only for a week shy of 3 months (including the fostering) I tried to give him the quality he deserved.
He was loved. He was spoken to softly and told how beautiful and good he was. He was taken outdoors for walks, and in the stroller and had an adventure across the US. He became a Canadian and inherited a brother (non FF Stanley) and a father, my boyfriend Richie. He rejoiced at meal time and had treats. He had nicknames: Mambolicious, Mamboloni, Mambo Jumbo and Puppa. He touched snow - which may have been his first time. Whatever room I was in, he would follow. Although our time was so short and I'm now heartsick and saddened that he's gone, I'm grateful to have been a part of his life. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to try and do right by him. He deserved that and so much more."

Tiff shared,
"Wiith a heavy heart as we had to make the difficult decision to put Haiku down. Over the last few weeks, her mobility decreased even moreso, and she started yelping and whining randomly throughout the day and night we believe due to pain combined with her dementia. We'd check on her, and nothing seemed to be amiss as she'd be in the same position we left her. Our vet confirmed that her condition would not improve, and given her age and failing kidneys, it was recommended we should say goodbye. We made sure to have the procedure done at home in her bed since she still gets motion sickness from car rides, and we wanted to make sure she was as comfortable as possible. She went calmly and quietly as we told her we loved her and to be a good girl.
Though it seems time went by quickly, we are so grateful we got two full years with this sassy, opinionated, grumpy grandma. Her personality never wavered, and I still chuckle at how we were allowed to live here in her house. She only cared about treats and food until the very end, and remained indifferent to all people and other animals/beings. Even in this last week, she made it clear when she was unhappy by nudging us with a quick poke of her nose. She was more cat than dog in a lot of ways, never seeking our attention outright and begrudgingly accepting pets and closer proximity as necessary.
We are so thankful to Frosted Faces for giving senior babies the chance at a second life with people who will love them with all they got and more. We'll miss our first baby Haiku, but are so lucky we had the chance to meet this gentle and sassy soul."

She shared,
"It is with an impossibly heavy heart that I write this: Sparky unexpectedly passed away on Thursday evening, November 23. I was with family for dinner and when I arrived home, he was motionless in his bed. He had a vet visit a few weeks prior due to a terrible tooth infection. He rebounded and I thought, he’s back! 😢
There are so many Sparky moments: how he insisted on sitting on my lap on the drive home when I adopted him, yet also insisted on trying to bite me every time I touched him, how I had to wear gloves our first two weeks together because he kept biting me.
Sparky had a legendary bite record - he bit my nephew, several neighbors, me - many many times, and yet I fiercely loved that little nugget.
Sparky fell hard for a neighbor dog - Bella. Bella loved him back but her housemate Cesar vocally protested anytime Sparky was over. Sparky also experienced unrequited love with other neighborhood dogs - Cagney and Lacey. Sparky had a huge heart for Littles like him.
Sparky had many nicknames besides the obvious ones (bitey, sharky, shanky), like Poop Master General, Sir Poops a Lot, Spark Plug, Sparkito Plugito. I loved him so very very much and I celebrated him every day.
One final note: due to the aforementioned biting, I never got to kiss his head or give him a belly rub. Thursday night, as I held his tiny 12-pound body in the ER, I gave him all the kisses and belly rubs I had stored up for 4 years."

Tribute: Rory entered South LA shelter as an over the counter stray. When we exited him he was by far the most fragile. He had teeny bird bones, a completely detached lens in his eye, infected teeth with two massive fistulas, and was not fixed. I kept thinking, "When we get him better we will do this, this, and this...."
Rory went on two Frosted Flings with loving, patient people who diapered him and accommodated his picky eating. This weekend Rory declined and his temp was 94. We rushed him to San Diego Bay Animal Hospital where his kidney values were significantly worse, along with his calcium and anemia values. Rory just did not look like he could fight this, and you know us, we would be his biggest cheerleaders if we thought he could. We let him go and volunteer, Tiffany Allen, who had rushed him to the vet was at his side.
As I go through photos of sweet Rory there's evidence of his weight loss and decline that weren't apparent when you see him everyday. It makes us so sad that no one had chosen to add him to their family yet, but he was the baby of FFF and was constantly being cuddled and protected by all of us.

His family shares,
"It's with great sadness I write to tell you that Axl passed away yesterday. He had become increasingly frail, unsteady, and restless the past month, as both his neuro issues and the effects of canine cognitive dysfunction increased. Then, last week, Axl lost his appetite, which was shocking because he was such a foodie, and heartbreaking because we knew his health had taken a turn. In his final days, Axl was only interested in eating steak that his dad would grill for him any time of the day or night, and McDonald's hamburgers ripped into small pieces. He still loved riding in the car to get them, leaning on his brothers for support to stay upright, and using the little energy he had to pop up as we went in the drive thru.
By Monday, his condition had declined further, and it was clear the time had come to help Axl be at peace. After a final night of taking turns holding him in our arms, a last few bites of dad's steak, one more car ride, and many kisses, Axl passed quickly and peacefully. Today, even with four other dogs in the house, it feels achingly empty and quiet without him toddling around.
Last weekend, we celebrated Axl's six month anniversary as part of our family. While we wish it had been much longer, we are thankful that the time Axl was with us surpassed the five months (at the shelter and FFF combined) he waited to be chosen. We're sure that Axl was not the type of dog who would have easily been noticed by potential adopters in the play yard at FFF. He probably wouldn't have run up to visitors at Open House, hopped up on anyone's lap, or wagged his tail hopefully while looking adorable. He may have even been napping through all of the excitement!
But, beneath his quirky, low energy exterior, Axl loved big. He clearly loved being part of a family again and was at his happiest when we were all in one area, so he could see what everyone was up to. He was the first to greet family members at the door, and the only time he wagged his tail was when his mom came home. He adored his brothers and didn't seem to understand why sometimes, they wanted to nap on a bed by themselves. He wanted to spoon with them ALL.THE.TIME. He loved going along on walks, even when he no longer could walk more than a few houses and didn't want to ride in a stroller or wagon. No worries, he thought, my dad will carry me! He also loved going on bike rides with his dad and had a great adventure when they participated in a LA cycling event together (pre-COVID.) Axl enjoyed all of the above even more if you shared food with him at the same time!
We are deeply grateful to Frosted Faces Foundation for rescuing & loving Axl, and to Katrina Doy for flinging him and posting updates that made us realize he belonged with us. In honor of Axl, we encourage everyone to consider an underdog like him the next time you're looking for a new family member. We definitely will!"

"10 May 2020 we said hello to 11 year old Emma and she became a part of our family. She was a thin, timid loner grieving the loss of her former owner. She was slow to trust and open up, but I trusted that she would one day know she was loved and feel safe enough to love me too. It initially took 23 days before she wanted to be petted and months longer before she nuzzled her head against mine. But eventually she got to the point of meeting me at the door when I came home, the little bell on her collar jingling as she ran towards me. We would hang out on the bed every evening with Emma lying close by and purring peacefully before slipping back to the place she was most comfortable sometime in the night - her room high up on her cat tree or lounging in her fluffy bed.
Last night we spent our evening hanging out together, Emma perched on pillows, no longer timid, seeming comfortable and safe in my company. She even let me pick her up and snuggle her which was huge! I didn’t know it was our last night together, but maybe she did. 17 months was all we had together before we had to say goodbye today due to cancer. The house is so quiet and my heart is breaking without the sound of that little bell."

Tribute: On Thursday, March 26th, we fulfilled our promise to Mimi.
Mimi lived at Frosted Faces Foundation for the majority of her time as a Frosted Face. She went on some Frosted Flings with Lexi Mena and Carla Tayao, but needed constant care from diaper changes to eye drops and supervision when she meandered around.
Her care was nothing but standard for a senior dog home here at FFF, and she always had a big yard to wander and friends to cuddle against. She never seemed distraught by her cognitive dysfunction as a result of aging, but she did not seem happy. We hold out for the idealistic goal of placing every single dog with a family where she will suddenly thrive and seem brighter with routine. When Paula came along willing and able, it was a very special day.
Paula provided the same care as we did at FFF and gave Mimi time to adjust. Finally it was just the collective realization that Mimi really may not be at a point where she could be placed in the most loving environment and have a great quality of life.
We held out hope. All Mimi knew was that she was getting warm soapy baths, swaddled in thick towels and rocked, she wore the cutest outfits, ate the stinkiest foods, and got a lot of exercise doing her laps!
"'Said goodbye to sweet, little Fifi/Mimi today. Even though her time with me was short, I’m glad I was able to be her final home.
More senior dogs need help and this sadness will not deter me from helping the next dog in need -with Frosted Faces Foundation. 💗 Hug ‘em if you got ‘em. 💗"

We rescued Bess with a giant mass on her thigh that was inoperable and she had a tooth root abscess. We gave her the best chance at a quality life by doing dental surgery because she seemed eager to eat and bright. Dental surgery did perk her up and increased her appetite so we placed her with a time tested Forever Foster Family. They always take time to hold their dogs and make sure they're comfortable from home made foods to booties!
When Bess declined meals for a few days in a row and the light dimmed in her eyes, it was time.
"It really sucks, we fell in love and had hoped that love would help her live for at least a year !
Thank you everyone of you for all your help and support. We are thrilled that we got to take her home
for Christmas & New Years and that she got to know we loved her in this extremely short time.
On a side note, in her past life, she must have been a dog who loved to chase balls as every time I'd throw the ball for
my other non FF dog, she would whip her head around. It is too bad she could not chase the ball anymore."

Before the pandemic, VA absolutely loved spending her days at Dog Days San Diego while her moms were at work. But for us, the pandemic was a blessing in disguise. It allowed me to be home with Virginia everyday for more than a year. She was hands down the best little coworker I have ever had...cutest one too!
We will miss her little “arrroooo” when she’s excited or impatiently waiting for the elevator, her little eyes looking up at us from behind her pillow fort on the couch, and the little tail wags that said “I love you so much.”

"Today we said goodbye to Bug. I know she is up there running around with Murphy, who we lost a couple months before we met Bug. Bug was such a badass.
Her tumors had gotten really bad but she remained her feisty self up until the end. Every day we evaluated her quality of life and tried to make sure we weren’t being selfish and keeping her around for us. We knew it was time today, when she could no longer walk. With her tumors, she was already getting more uncomfortable laying down and sitting. The vet believes the cancer had already spread through most of her body. Both the concierge vet who laid her to rest at our home, and our regular vet, were shocked she made it this long after her diagnosis in June.
This morning, she had a tasty breakfast of scrambled eggs and turkey. It’s so hard to imagine that tomorrow morning she won’t be hopping around with her big grin, trying to bite our ankles like she did every morning because we were taking too long to get her breakfast. I miss her so much already. Thank you Frosted Faces for bringing her to Ramona so I could find her."

We love Joyce because she chose Willis after watching him not get chosen for weeks during her many volunteer shifts. "If not you, then who?" She also gave him subcutaneous fluids to buy him every last good day, changed diapers, and accommodated him as a picky eater!
Joyce shares,
"Willis was one of those dogs who didn’t run up to you and jump in your lap or beg for pets. When I saw him at Frosted Faces he was usually curled up outside sleeping. I chose him to be part of my pack because he was one of the overlooked dogs.
He was a funny guy. He’d make a whining noise when he was making his bed just right. When I came home from being out he would join the rest of the dogs giving me a hard time for being out. He followed me around the house. When I was getting all the dogs to go out for the last time at night, as I was picking him up he would growl like Cujo. He absolutely loved going out for a walk. He knew that if one of the neighbors was out he’d get a treat.
I carried him up and down the stairs so that became our cuddle time. If I tried to cuddle with him other than that he would hang out for a couple of minutes but then start struggling to get down. I think he was happy with the routine, knowing that he was loved, and knowing that there was always a selection of beds to choose from.
Willis had pancreatitis and had a couple of attacks while I had him. He had a really bad attack recently, wasn’t eating, and couldn’t use his hind legs. He would cry in his bed when he needed something. I couldn’t put the poor guy through anymore pain. I was blessed to be with him when he crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
I sure miss sweet Willis! I know he’s running around now and not in pain."

"💔 My heart will never be ready to write this memorial.
Yesterday morning I hugged my Sally Joy as tight as I could as she crossed the rainbow bridge. 🌈
This baby graced my life and made it infinitely better 4 years 1 month and 16 days ago.
I remember the moment I saw her, when Andy brought her out to me from the Littles room a few weeks later on Adoption Day, and every trip we’ve ever taken together.
She was my best travel companion, belly rubs obsessed, Sun baby who would turn her face toward every Sun she could find. My coffee buddy every morning, my most demanding child when it came to her meal times, rambunctious and adventurous, who would never EVER actually sit in her wagon or stroller but hang out the side. Every. Single. Time.
Some would think that a blind, diaper wearing, chicken allergic, 14 year old dog would be too much to handle.
But the truth is, is would change a million more diapers and work around her challenging dietary needs for the rest of my life if given the chance.
Unfortunately, I could only do it for the rest of hers.
We were inseparable, my little Sally Joy and I, and I am lost without her.
My love, go lay in the sunshine until I get there. I’ll meet you on your favorite patch on grass.

"Bella gave us so much love. She slept with us and each morning John would wake early and would take Bella downstairs with him. But, before they left, she would always kiss me.
She would follow John everywhere. We often said we should have named her Shadow.
Bella didn’t care to much for the outside. She would go outside to see where we were and then go back inside the house.
Bella was very smart and knew what she had to do or no do to get treats.
Overall, she was very healthy, with occasional ear infections. That’s why it was such shock when we discovered she had cancer of the spleen.
We miss her every minute, but so thankful for the time we had her."

"Bean was the best dog anyone could ever ask for. He filled a hole in our hearts like no other. He was so sweet and affectionate and he fit right in to our pack. We really hoped to have more time with him.
In late June we started noticing little things that gave us concern. He would start panting and become a tiny bit disoriented but would snap out of it quickly. We had plans to take him in for a check up but when he began to walk a little drunken like, we took him to the ER (it was a Saturday). $1400 later and there was nothing remarkable to report. We followed up at College Animal hospital the following Monday and they were also perplexed at what could be wrong. Thinking it might just be a vestibular episode, we gave him some meds in hopes he’d come back to his normal bouncy-bean self. He didn’t. We made an appointment with a neurologist and found out that it was most likely a brain tumor. We decided to see if prednisone would work. It didn’t. Bean was constantly restless. We had to take shifts throughout the day and night because he was so disoriented and couldn’t walk unassisted.
After 6 weeks, we decided it was time to let him go. We used an incredible service called Graceful Departure. The lovely vet came to our home. She wore dog momma pheromones and played soft soothing music. She explained everything in detail about what was going to happen and gave us all the time we needed to say our thank you’s and goodbyes. After Bean passed, she swaddled his tiny 5lb body and took him away to prepare his ashes for us.
We will always be grateful to Frosted Faces for giving us the gift of this extraordinary dog. The time was way too short but it was pure heaven with him by our side."
