"When we began fostering Traviesa, we knew she wasn’t long for this world. At 18, she was facing some pretty bad stress from being abandoned by her owner. My goal was to give her a safe and final landing place. We fulfilled that goal yesterday. She passed away while napping in the sun on the patio. "I saw Zack on the Frosted Faces Foundation site on a cold day in February of this year & of course went to open house to see him in his kennel. I fell in love & we adopted him that day . He fit right in with my FF Lily Mae & my Dexter . He went to Glamis , experienced sniffing all that sand & camping, he was stone deaf so all the noise from sand cars never bothered him 🤷‍♀️ He went to Arizona with us many times and in the spring he loved to sit in the warm sun in Arizona. Unfortunately he had late stage kidney disease and plenty of arthritis in his back end . Saturday he started to not feel well and it went down hill from there 😢 we discovered today at the FF vet clinic that he also had a mass in his Lung , he was in extreme pain in his back so we made the choice for him to go to the rainbow bridge & not be in pain any more, Run free Zack ❤️"

Tribute: On March 6th, Lynda fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Mandy.

Mandy entered the shelter as an over the counter stray, but it was clear she was not a stray. Mandy was suffering from cognitive decline and spun in circles. We know how a hard end of life decisions are especially when they involve CCD. Our pets still eat, walk, breathe normally, labs usually look okay- but do they enjoy "dog life" anymore?

Lynda was brave enough to take her home as a foster to help us decide. She tried supplements, a heartbeat bear, swaddling her, treat puzzles- you name it. Mandy was suffering and it was time to let her go with dignity.

Lynda shared,

"I never got to really know you, Mandy. That horrible disease masked your true personality but your beauty shined through. I tried to give you some peace. I hope you found it when we let you go."

"Dear Bee, I am so happy we got to spend the rest of your life together (120 days beautiful days). I know you had a tough time adjusting because you were sick. You had a lot of things stacked against you. I think you used to live outside and didn’t know when your next meal would come. I’m not sure what kind of a life you had before us and before @frostedfaces rescued you. I’m sorry you were always so restless, but when you did finally relax some, it was so sweet. I love how happy you got for our walks each day, food, treat plates we made, puppiatos that Daddy made you, and people food we shared with you. You gained 2 lbs with us and you needed that bad!

We love you, Bee Bee! We loved to see you happy. We loved the zoomies you did in the hall upstairs. We loved how you got excited for our trips together and we’re so thankful we got to take 4 trips together. We loved seeing you wag your tail a lot for us most mornings. We loved feeding you chicken at date night. We loved your squishy head and kind eyes. We loved your judging stare and loving stare. We loved your sweet pink speckled velvet snout.

We’re sorry you were in such respiratory distress at the end, but we were there for you as we promised we’d be.

Thank you for helping me with the loss of Nilla and Everly (our first frosted face). Thank you for all the things you did that reminded me of Nilla, pure gold. I think I got a piece of her back in you and that’s more than anyone could ask for.

We will love and miss you forever.

Tribute: On February 18th, we fulfilled our promise to Frosted Face Pudgey.

Pudgey entered San Diego Humane Society for emergency boarding after her owner was found deceased. She was brought in with 21 other dogs and 15 cats on 2/15/23 and luckily spent much of her time with a foster who adored her.

Shannon Feretich got to transfer Pudgey from San Diego Humane Society to FFF on February 8th. We knew Pudgey was a slam dunk "Lobbyist" aka a dog who gets to live in our lobby right away. She toodled around laying on big Costco beds, begging in the kitchen, and being a quiet observer in the play yard. All last week, I am pretty sure every visitor to FFF went to the bathroom with her at their feet. That was one of her favorite places was curled up on the bathroom rug. She was best known for sleeping upside down which we have countless photos of! Twice during the night she dug at her bed so hard in order to fluff it, that it was a disaster zone by morning. The girl was all about comfortable naps!

Unfortunately, Pudgey passed away after going into respiratory distress. It was sudden and awful, and we did everything we could for her. The vet suspects she had laryngeal paralysis and it was stress induced that just got worse and worse. I hate that she was safe in a foster and we exited her with the promise to find her a nice family and we hardly got any time with her, much less, found her a forever family.

I know that Pudgey's time at FFF was comfortable and that volunteers spent a lot of time with her. That is what we do, I guess. Hold them close, because you never know when you will run out of time. ❤
