Tribute: On July 28th, Rosie fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Odie.

She shared,

"We met Odie, along with Camper, another sweet boy, at a meet and greet at Frosted Faces last spring, and we were immediately taken by what a sweet and gentle boy he was. We brought Odie home on April 15 to foster him (what a Tax Day Treat!) It didn't take long for Odie to become an easy companion for me and our other family dog Littles. Although Odie was primarily at my home and 'my dog', my daughter lives down the hill, and we have always had a combined pack, so our dogs always spend much time and space together between our two places. Odie fit right in, getting along with all extended family, kids and dogs included.

Oh! And by the way, we did not know that Odie was a deaf boy, until we picked him up that day. Although this was a first for us, it didn't make a whole lot of difference; he seemed to be able to follow and 'understand' different cues and body language.

He was a happy and content boy as long as he could know that someone was near. After his first person passed away, he sadly ended up being kenneled for quite a long time, I believe 3 years at a boarding facility before FFF rescued him... This left him with a case of serious separation anxiety, and one can hardly blame him. During our short time together, I could see that he was able to begin to trust a bit more, and able to endure small increments of time outside before realizing he needed to get back inside or with someone.

He was such an easygoing, polite, and gentle soul. It was easy to just be near him and keep him feeling secure.

He traveled with me to different family homes, and met much extended family. Everyone who met Odie loved him.

He absolutely loved his couches, beds (both human and dog) and had no problem with getting all the sleep he needed!

He lived for his walks, several daily little hikes and he did his 'happy trot' when he knew we were going.

He wasn't as much a foodie as most of our other dogs were, but he did enjoy his meals, at times with great gusto!

Everyone at Frosted Faces was so wonderful with support and help with the several times I had to board Odie. It was always so good to be able to bring him back home. I think we knew all along that he was a 'keeper' and when he was getting adoption interest, especially the last time he was going to be at FF boarding, we knew we wanted him and decided to make the commitment to adopt. It was all set, and we were so happy to make it official.

I was away on a trip when he suddenly took ill, and it got more serious quickly and he ended up passing away on July 28 after having severe neurologic changes. It was devastating news to get, especially being so far away and unable to connect with him.

I am so grateful for the time and effort that Kelly, and all the staff at FF, along with the ER vets, put into helping Odie during his final days, and his eventual crossing over that rainbow bridge.

I miss his sweet, gentle presence still and will forever."

Tribute: On August 17th, Claudie fulfilled her promise to Annie Oaklee.

She shared,

"Annie Oaklee was a very special girl. She was beyond sweet, even though, I don't believe she had a loving beginning. She came into my home with 2 cats and was part of the family right away. She loved to run! We went to the park, I would hide behind the tree and call Annie! She would run full speed, ears back, a smile on her face when she reached Mom, she looked liked Rin-tin-tin.......hope you all know who that was moons ago ha ha. She was so happy, so full of joy. It's hard to understand how fast that all changed. I know she had the Best rest of her life, but oh it was toooooo short.

Having a dog greet you every day with adorning eyes and unconditional love, wanting nothing more than to be your best friend, is a gift that keeps on giving. I miss her terribly, I know she is across the Rainbow Bridge with all the others that have blessed me and brought joy and sometimes healing to heart. Love you girl ❤"

Tribute: On September 6th, Jen fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Golden.

She shared,

"My feelings for Golden, and what I wish her life had been, could fill a book. I wanted her to come home with me as far back as March. She was perfect for me, even though I wasn’t confident about being everything she needed. We leaned on Frosted Faces and all the human and doggy friends there for support.

Because of her history, I didn’t want her to feel alone, so it worked that she could be with me 24/ 7 at home and relax with her sister during the week. On the weekends, we socialized and she loved being a part of things, especially kissing her doggy friends and big treats. I’ll never forget when she got her unstable body up and walked 10 feet across Kahoots to get to the pig ear rack then tried to pull the whole rack off the shelf. I gave her lick mats and Kongs, but she couldn’t quite figure out that you weren’t supposed to eat the whole thing.

Golden was the only date I wanted for the Frosted Faces 10th anniversary party. She SUP’d like a pro. She climbed hills in her stroller, went to the county fair, the beach, cruised in the harbor and partied in North Park. She loved meeting younger dogs at adoption events. We camped on a peaceful hillside for a few days with no one else around and she enjoyed a firepit and cozy cabin. During the day, we cooled off in the grass at a park and snacked on French fries.

As we strolled the neighborhood at the golden hour to avoid the heat, I realized I will think of her at that time every day. When a Monarch butterfly came to us in an unlikely place on her last afternoon, I felt it was my mom saying that Golden would be taken care of. She peacefully went to sleep at home after a dinner of ice cream and cheeseburgers.

I am so grateful for the support of Golden’s fans, especially Rosa Pallas who visited her several times, and all those who admired her from afar and lavished attention on her in person. And to Frosted Faces Foundation for caring for her and giving me the chance to be her mom."

Tribute: On March 26th, Sue fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Bonnie.

She shared,

"I was drawn to Bonnie. Reading about her and that she had a number of mammary masses reminded me of my FF Scarlett Grace who I lost to mammary cancer. I was looking at Bonnie's paperwork after she passed, and saw she was rescued on March 11, 2024. The significance of the date hit me, as Scarlett Grace passed away on March 11, 2022. She was meant to come into my life, and I'd be her family for her last days.

Bonnie had her intake exam 2 days after I took her home, and it was confirmed she had mammary cancer that was spreading within her body. I hoped for good quality days ahead with her. Bonnie was quiet, and in the beginning, she explored the yard and enjoyed outside time. I loved seeing her cute little hop up the steps to the porch. As the days passed, her appetite (despite meds) decreased, and she had trouble hopping up the steps, so I would carry her. I felt like she hadn’t had much love in her life, and I wanted to show her as much love as I could. I loved seeing her tail wag, and I was happy when she would eat a good meal. Her meals became baby food, eggs, ground turkey, sausage, whatever she would eat. I spent time holding her each day, and each evening I’d hold her on my chest, and tell her she was loved as I kissed the top of her head and would gently pet her.

I took her to Lake Murray with foster Quentin, and my grandson. I didn't know that this would be my last full day with her. She spent her time slowly walking around and sniffing all the new smells. On the way home I bought her a plain hamburger, but even that couldn’t entice her to eat. Her breathing pattern changed, becoming more rapid. The largest mass by her left leg was making it uncomfortable for her to walk or lay down.

I held Bonnie in my arms for over an hour after arriving at FFF. Kelly, Alicia and Christian came over to tell her goodbye. It took me that long before I was ready to let her go. Bonnie’s eyes had been bright when we arrived, but that hour later when I looked at her, she was telling me it was time. Dr. D and Maira were so kind and caring. Bonnie crossed over peacefully. I sat there holding her, and told her I loved her and said, Fly Free. She opened and closed her mouth. I know there are often involuntary movements after death, but I felt she was telling me that it was okay. I only had Bonnie for ten days, and I hope she knew how much she was loved, and that she mattered, because she sure did matter to me."

Tribute: On June 1st, we fulfilled our promise to Frosted Face Sparky.

Sparky was brought to the shelter when his guardian was incarcerated. Sparky actually was impounded multiple times, never his fault. It was important to us that we exited him and made she he knew he was loved. Just two nights after going to his final foster family, it seems Sparky had a cardiac event in their living room and he passed away shortly afterwards. He was loved by all of the FFF volunteers, and benefited from going on 3 Frosted Flings. All of his fosters have written a tribute for him.

Michele shared,

"I was so shocked and saddened to hear this. Sparky was such an easy going, lovable dog that wanted a family so bad. He followed us around the house everywhere to keep us in line of sight. Maybe he just loved humans that much or maybe he was afraid of being left behind. He sat patiently while I cleaned his ears or gave him ear drops. Who does that? Ear infections are so painful but he allowed us to do anything. He was wonderful with our kids, with neighbors and strangers. No reactivity around other animals. He really took to men and we wanted to keep him forever but our personal dog was snappy to Sparky. Sparky was just such a quiet, cool, chill kind of guy. He took multiple walks with me everyday. I miss having a dog for longer walks. I was sad when our fling ended and each time I visited him at FF he looked at me like, “What did I do wrong that you didn’t keep me”? It made me smile to see Sparky had a girlfriend named Zena. Staffies are a favorite of mine but they are known to push through pain and ailments until their body gives in. I hope Sparky is pain free and being loved and spoiled wherever he is."

Kristie shared,

"First, let me just say that Michelle Abbott post about Sparky really made me want to do a fling with him his antics and his fun and her giggles about things that he did made me chuckle. I have to wonder if he wasn’t feeling as well when he came to stay with us because he slept quite a bit, enjoyed being pet and snuggled a little bit, but mostly he just wanted to sleep.

What was really adorable was when Lola kept trying to engage him in play she would drop down on her front paws with her butt in the air and kind of smile at him And he would turn sideways and turn his head up in the air looking at her out of the side of his eye like, “What are you doing, you crazy dog”? It was so cute. He didn’t know what to make of her. Even when Poochie would Snark him he would eventually lay down and let Poochie lay right next to him, even though Poochie was being a little snarky butt.

Sparky was a gentle, loving soul who was really drawn to my husband and my son. He let me get my love and cuddles in, but he sure like to lay next to my husband or my son and be gently pet. I sure hope he is running free and enjoying, his journey across the rainbow bridge."

Alana shared,

"The moment Sparky was brought out on the patio to meet us my husband was in love. "Oh yeah! Look at this guy!" And then after looking back and forth between Sparky and Big Tony - "do you think they'll let us take home two?"

Sparky was instantly the easiest dog ever. He had zero issues being one of four dogs and just kept making the rounds getting pets from the family. He was easy to bathe, easy to walk, just plain easy. He never figured out how the dog door worked but I'm sure he would have eventually.

The night Sparky passed we had friends over to meet our two new family members, Sparky and Big Tony (Korben.) When he became clearly in distress there were so many people who were giving him love and snuggles and pets while he crossed over. I hope he knew he was home."
