Date of Passing: November 6, 2023
Family: Daniela Cruz Herrera
Fans: Donor in memory of Brody

Tribute: On November 6th, Daniela fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Buster.

She shared,

"My Buster baby, my grumpy boy, he was perfect. Yesterday Buster crossed the rainbow bridge to doggy heaven. It hadn’t even been a week that he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lymphoma but his health declined so fast. Sunday night he was vomiting but still ate a little so I meal prepped him some turkey, carrots, and rice ready for the week of meds to come. Buster and I didn’t sleep at all that night, he was pacing the yard didn’t want to come inside and would just lay on the grass shaking. Monday he didn’t get up to eat his favorite food, he was here but he wasn’t actually here. I’m so thankful for Kendra for being so fast to communicate to Frosted Faces what the situation was. It was his time to go.

We rushed to FF and I am so grateful to them for everything and how compassionate they were. Buster had his family by his side and we even had Beethoven brought over to say his goodbyes as well.

He was our chunker dunker but was quickly skin and bones. Buster hated kisses but I made sure to give him plenty everyday no matter how far back he moved his head. He loved to bark at everyone. My mom never let us say anything to him when he did because she said it meant he was alive. He was our little protector always alert and active. It brings me peace to know that his last 2 months on this earth were filled with so much love and fun alongside his brother. I hope he’s barking up a storm and eating all the chicken in the world up there❤️

Thank you everyone for your support and love on my last post I wished he had more time here. I’m so happy he got to experience trick or treating at FF I feel like that was the last normal day for him ❤️"

Tribute: On Monday, July 10th, we fulfilled our promise to Frosted Face Price.

Price entered OC Shelter as a stray with a swollen, infected back leg that x-rays showed was bone cancer. Volunteer, Karess Nguyen, hosted his freedom ride down to FFF where he resided in the lobby among the greats.

It didn't matter how much time our new friend had left on earth with us, he was terribly painful and his leg had to come off. Laura Wacker and Janet Citriniti had the honor of escorting him to and from surgery at Anicira Vet Center. The surgery was a complete success and Price was instantly visibly more comfortable. He hopped all around the house as a tripod investigating down the hallway and begging in the kitchen. It was one of those surgeries that we just felt like it didn't matter if Price lived one more day or 1,000, it was absolutely worth it to see him comfortable.

Price got strolled on the FFF hike by volunteer, Felix Daoust, just on Sunday. Volunteers came and went from Open House, and I distinctly remember one mom and daughter laying on the floor with Price for over an hour petting him and telling him how special he was. I asked if they needed anything or were waiting for someone, but no. They were just spending time with our boy.

I can't tell you how much that means looking back, including the volunteerism of all the people who stepped up to contribute to moments that changed his life from rescue, to surgery, to his last hike.

On Monday, we noticed Price had a slight cough that got worse very fast until we had to supplement him with oxygen and do x-rays by the end of the day. His chest was full of fluid amidst the mets we already knew were there. We did a lasix injection, which helped radiographically. It was closing time at FFF, so we rushed him to VSH-San Marcos where they tapped his chest and discovered that the fluid was blood. Price had lived every day that he could and it was time to let him go.

The vet staff rolled him into a room with me, and I whispered in his ear that we all loved him very much and how sorry I was that we could not help him more as his heart slowly stopped beating.

We love you, Price.

Tribute: Tiny Moana entered San Diego Humane Society as a stray in June 16th. She was not claimed, so the shelter provided her with a very necessary dental surgery on June 28th to address her grade 4/4 dental disease.

We transferred Moana to our care on June 29th where she was everyone's instant favorite because she was an itty bitty doll baby. Volunteers gave her a bath the following day and she slept under Kelly's desk for the day wrapped in a blanket.

Unfortunately, on the morning of July 1st, poor Kennel Manager, Maira, discovered that Moana had passed away during the night. She was not kenneled with anyone else, and seemed okay for her procedure at SDHS just two days prior, eating and ready for a new lease on life. We knew she had stage 2 kidney disease, but we do dentals on dogs with those blood values all of the time, so it is completely understandable why SDHS decided on dental surgery to make her comfortable despite those values. Even as we scrolled back through play yard photos from the previous day's potty break (because you know Kennel Manager, Alicia, was already obsessed with her!), Moana looked alert and simply senior.

She came so close to comfort and family- it's just not fair.

Fly high, sweetie.

briana (BRI)

Acquired from: South LA Shelter
Age upon Rescue: 10
Date of Rescue: June 29, 2023
Date of Passing: September 30, 2024
Family: Ann Tebbetts Coffeen
Fans: Donor in Memory of Theo Olson

Tribute: On September 30th, Ann fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Blue Briana.

She shared,

"These posts never get easier, just as losing another family member, whether human or pet. never gets easier. Two weeks ago, on Sept. 30th, I had to say good bye to my sweet, beautiful baby girl, Briana. She had not been eating well for a few weeks. She was diagnosed and treated for a UTI, but her appetite still did not improve. Finally she stopped eating completely and then also started not drinking. I got her in to see Dr. Russell on Friday. He said she was in kidney failure, likely from a kidney infection and also discovered a tumor in her stomach. They kept her over the weekend, giving her fluids and antibiotics, hoping for some improvement. I got a call on Monday morning, letting me know she was not showing any signs of improvement and they advocated letting her go. When they brought her out to me, she laid her head on my chest and looked up at me as if to tell me it was time. With tears flowing, I gave her a kiss good bye and she passed peacefully wrapped in a blanket in my arms.

Bri was my baby girl. She was destined to be mine. I first met her in July of last year, when Kelly brought her out and put her in my arms. She reminded me so much of my Jazzy that I had lost a couple of years prior. She came home with me on a fling. She fit in with Busby and Sailor so well. I would have adopted her then, but due to HOA restrictions, I was limited to my two. I was so happy when she was adopted a short time later, but then sadly was returned through no fault of her own. She was due to have spay surgery, so I decided to go get her again so that she could recover in a home. Again, she was adopted relatively quickly, this time by the gal who found her in her yard in L.A. In January, I lost my precious Sailor, and decided I was not going to adopt again any time soon, however fate stepped in. Just a week after losing Sailor, Bri's adopter contacted me to let me know that, unfortunately, she had to return Bri to FFF. I went the same day to pick her up. When I brought her home this time, there was no question that this would be her forever home. I had thought that it would be much longer than the short 8 months that she was with me. Sadly, that was not to be.

Bri had such a sweet, loving soul. She loved every dog she met and would cuddle with anyone who allowed it. Even Busby accepted her cuddling, even though he is not really a fan of cuddling with other dogs. She welcomed any dogs that came to the house. We had Lady (Kim and Andy Green's dog) come visit a few times and they were good friends. And just before she passed, we had a Safety-net Boarder, Star, for a couple of weeks, and they got along fine. She loved people, too, but was wary of any strangers that came into the house. Every night she would cuddle in the chair or on my bed with me. She was not a “morning dog” and would often sleep in until 9 or later. She loved her food, and loved going out to restaurants where she would always get some special treat. Bri was always very well behaved whenever we went out. She enjoyed going on strolls at O'side Harbor, or the various parks we went to. She liked going on rides and behaved very well in the car when we were going out, however, at the end of the day, when we were heading home, she would bark and cry to tell me to hurry up. She wanted to get home so she can take her nap.

I miss my baby girl every day and so does Busby. He rarely laid in her favorite bed, but now he lays in it quite often. She took a big piece of my heart with her. I do think that Sailor somehow made sure that she came back to me. And I am sure that he and her friend, Lady, (who passed just a few weeks prior), were waiting for her at the Rainbow Bridge. Run free my sweet baby girl! I love you and miss you!

I want to thank everyone at Frosted Faces for all you did for her. She was spayed, had dental surgery and finally had a couple of mammary tumors removed. Thank you, Kelly, for introducing her to me 15 months ago. I will never forget the day you first put her in my arms. She was meant to be mine, I just didn't know it then. Thank you, also, to the vet team for caring for her and giving me the courage to make the right decision at the end.

I also want to thank the Olson family (in Memory of Theo Olson) for being Briana's fans, which allowed Frosted Faces to be able to take care of her medical needs."

Posh

Acquired from: South LA Shelter
Age upon Rescue: 10
Date of Rescue: June 29, 2023
Date of Passing:
Family: Dolores DelaRosa
Fans: Allison Force

Tribute: On November 16th, Dolores fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Posh.

She shared,

"On the night of November 16. My sweet little posh crossed the rainbow bridge.

I knew when I first brought her home for a Fourth of July holiday fling that she was fragile. She was just a little wisp of a girl when she arrived to Frosted Faces just a few days prior.

I had a list of little dogs that I wanted to take a look at and choose for my holiday-fling and Posh was on the list. The day that I went, several of the pups on my list had already been scooped up. I went out into the Littles yard to find Posh and I roamed around the yard several times, not being able to spot her.

I saw Mary and I asked her, where is Posh?

She said, oh right over there on top of that bed.

I went to the bed that Mary pointed out and sure enough Posh was all curled up on top, sleeping, she was nearly the same color of the blanket, so I absolutely missed her.

She was smaller than her pictures.

I picked her up and she was light as a feather in my arms

I asked Alicia to fill out the papers, and I brought her home.

Posh was a dainty little lady. Very soft and mild, and never made a peep. She soon mapped out her way in my one bedroom apartment. She found her water bowl and the various beds in my home.

She tried them all out.

My goal for the two weeks was to help her perk up, perhaps put on a little bit of weight and help her find a home.

She did have one meet & greet , but soon after she took a turn for the worst and got very sick. I rushed her to the property and she was hospitalized for a week solid.

After leaving her and coming home, my apartment seemed twice as empty. She took up very little space, but her presence loomed large.

I visited her a couple of times to give her a little encouragement to get better, and soon at the end of her week of hospital stay, she was released to come home, I had made my decision to ask Kelly if I could keep her.

I’m glad I did!

Posh was so very soft and it's hard for me to describe in words, her little spirit, her little presence or aura.

She was a gentle little soul, and I called her my earth angel

I had lots of fun dressing her up!

I took her to the San Diego pride parade as part of the Frosted Faces pack. We had a great time and I’m sure that she was a favorite for the crowds.

She loved riding in the car, even though she fell fast asleep

She was too fragile to go up and down my staircase so every time that she needed to go out to do her business or we went for an outing, I had to pick her up and carry her, which I didn’t mind because I loved holding her and giving her a dozen kisses on the way down or up.

She filled my heart with sweetness!

Occasionally, she would have a bad day or two and it was scary. I knew that it wouldn’t take very much to take her away.

A day or two before she passed, she dramatically slow down. She slept constantly, but she would get up to drink water and eat a bite or two. That last night on earth she had gone to sleep, and as I lay down next to her, I could feel her stir and give out a little yelp. I’m a very light sleeper and I mainly woke up and held her in my arms to quiet her. I gave her 1 million kisses and I told her that it was OK, that I loved her and it was all right if she went away.

She passed in my arms.

I share this in her memory and to give her honor and all the pups like her. Many times we have dogs on the property that are considered hospice and need a home sooner than later.

I know that it can feel daunting and a bit scary to take a dog on like that. it is a sad moment when you lose them, but the greater reward is to know that you gave them a loving home. A warm place to lay their head and lots of kisses and hugs during their last days on earth.

A dog lives in the moment. I believe that when a rescued animal finds their forever place, no matter how long or short those days are, they forget their past. They put aside the trauma and loneliness.

Now their new days are full of love and happiness, until they decide to let go.

I loved her so very much and I believe that she loved me back.

I am grateful for Frosted Faces and for Kelly, Andy, and Alicia.

I want to say thank you to the doctors and vet team that helped me take care of her.

I am thankful that I was given the honor to be Poshy’s mom.♥️"

Tribute: On August 15th, Jess fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Lailani.

She shared,

"💔 We helped Lailani crossed the rainbow bridge last night.

During her fling time with us a few weeks ago, she had a visible mass on her upper front gum that turned out to be melanoma. Within a couple weeks, that mass doubled in size and I committed to caring for her at home until it’s time.

Lailani was easy to take care of, but she was grouchy and bitey with most. She preferred to be left alone in her sling, and I’m glad I was able to give her that safe space. She

It gives me comfort to know that she had lived a good life with her previous mom who passed away recently, and that she is now back in her arms again.

Mommy loves you, little girl. May you rest in peace ❤️"

Tribute: On October 9th. Katherine fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Barnaby after battling lung cancer.

She shared,

"It's hard to describe my time with Barnaby, time was too short but each day treasured.

He adjusted to his new home quickly and within a day or so was helping himself to nap time on the couch. He loved it.

It was an easy adjustment sharing the house with his new canine sister Abby. He loved laying next to her on the doggie bed, even scoot her off it at times.

Those sweet eyes greeting me and everyone else who came to his new house. So happy to see everyone, loving each cuddle and scratch he could get.

He rarely barked, indifferent to other dogs. There were those days I would find him napping on the patio just soaking up some sun, I'm sure it felt good on those old bones.

He did not have an easy life and I hope his last few weeks were comfortable and carefree.

Such a wonderful boy, I miss him and will never forget him.

I want to thank Elise who fostered him prior to our adoption. She was so helpful in making sure Barnaby's transition to my house was smooth. She visited him prior to passing and you could see how he loved her."
