Tribute: On July 18th, Erica fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face BooBoo.
She shared,
"Boo Boo, Boo Bear, our spicy girl, crossed the rainbow bridge recently. She was my daughter, Belle’s, “baby.” Boo Boo wore every outfit Belle bought her without fuss and could be carried around and eld by Belle for hours at a time. Boo went in backpacks, baskets, bags, hoodies, and goodness knows what else, always just happy to be with Belle. Boo would allow others to pick her up and carry her, but she wouldn’t cuddle or lean close. You knew she was tolerating it. But with Belle, well, that was her person.
So, when we realized Boo Boo wasn’t getting any better from what seemed like a never-ending illness and weight-loss, I asked Belle if she wanted to be with Boo at the end. I told her she definitely didn’t have to. Belle replied with, “I’m her comfortable spot, so I need to be there with her.” Belle hadn’t been at the very end with any of our previous dogs, and at 9, I was concerned. So was her dad, but we also wanted her to make that decision and we honored it. She also decided Boo’s last day would be her BEST day. She got her a new outfit, painted her nails, and we got her a pup cup at Dutch Bros. Then, we made our way up to Frosted Faces. The whole way up, Belle didn’t cry. She smiled, she tickled Boo Bear, she talked to her and told her jokes. It was Boo Boo’s best day with her favorite person. And when it was time, like really time, Belle just smiled and told Boo what a great job she was doing. And Boo passed peacefully and easily and in the arms of her loving little person. Belle looked up at me and asked, “Do dogs go to Heaven?” and I said, “Every one of them.” And then she asked something that broke my heart – “Will she get lost on her way to Toad and Pugsley?” – I nearly lost it. I said they were already there waiting for her. She couldn’t get lost.
We always joked that Boo was the tiniest but toughest dog in the house – the only one that had ever needed muzzling! She was spicy, and hilarious, and loved to burrow in places that caused us to put a beeping tag on her collar just so we could find her. She made us laugh every day. Boo Boo was barely 9. She was sick most of the time we had her. I don’t know what her life was like before our family and before Belle, but I know that my sweet girl loved that little dog the most anyone ever could for the last year of her life. And Boo knew it, too ❤️

Tribute: On November 6th, we fulfilled our promise to 14 year old Frosted Face Lumper.
We exited 7 dogs from Inland Valley Humane Society- we just took all of the small senior dogs that they had available! Jeanne Wilder got them to FFF safely and as she unloaded Lumper it was clear he did not look well. We put him in front of the doctor right away where his lab work showed end stage kidney failure. He didn't have a UTI, but we sent out a culture to be sure. An ultrasound revealed two shriveled end stage kidneys- so that was our answer.
We hospitalized him to give him fluid therapy and buy him some good days. He perked up, cleaned out a couple bowls of chicken, and got to sleep on the Smíšek side of the house for some normalcy. He trotted around the living room curiously, seeking out soft beds and water.
Volunteers got to hold him like a baby in the lobby when he was eating and taking meds orally. It's crazy to think that Lumper likely cost thousands of dollars one day from a breeder and no one was by his side now when he needed them most. Volunteers and hospice families are critical at FFF. We may not be the "forever families" for Frosted Faces, but we are their final families and we know how to make every minute count.
Lumper's fluid boost was short-lived and he was tired. In true FFF Family fashion, all of the staff gathered to tearfully fulfill our promise of a death with dignity when all treatment options were exhausted.
We love you, Lumper. ❤

Tribute: On September 8th, Sam and Beverly fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Zoe.
They shared,
"Regarding Zoe, we only had her for about 10 months, but they were the most wonderful 10 months we could have. She quickly acclimated to our home. Then, she "took over." Zoe was the most energetic, animated little diva we ever had. Her capacity for fun and playfulness was inexhaustible. As soon as she saw me sneaking around the table, she went into her play mode. Walks were a highlight of her day, and she never walked, she always ran to the frustration of my wife. From morning to night Zoe was a joy.
Probably the most important thing about her time with us is that my son is living with us and has cancer. Zoe was a constant healing presence for him. She adopted him as her patient and spent lots of time with him. This gave him comfort during difficult times.
That little princess had a remarkable imprint on this family, especially for such a short time. I know she is on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, playing with all the other pets we have had and waiting for the time when we will all be reunited."
