Tribute: On January 28th, Sarah and Mike fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Everly.

They shared,

"Everly was a total joy! She did happy dances for us and food and she was always in good spirits. Our time together was short, but we packed so much love, life, and fun into our 57 days together! I am so thankful that Frosted Faces rescued her and we were the lucky ones to give her a home, a family and to get to love her. In our time together, we took 4 trips and stayed at some of our favorite places with her. She ate at restaurants with us, she went to date night with us, she pretty much did everything with us. We never left her side and in return, she never left ours.

Everly was a gift and she gave us so much love in return. She helped us heal from the recent loss of our 18 year girl, Nilla, and we are forever grateful to her.

Dear Everly, I’m so sorry you were so sick and we couldn’t save you despite all the things we tried. We will always remember you, we will love you forever, and we will miss you forever!

Evy!!! We love you forever!"

Age upon Rescue: 8
Date of Rescue: November 29, 2023
Date of Passing: August 26, 2024
Family: Courtney & Jordan Ravens
Fans: Heather B., Barb Borinski & Mate

Tribute: On August 26th, Jordan and Courtney fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Woody.

They shared,

"My Big Boy, Woody. It has been so hard for me to write this tribute because how do you put into words how much you love a dog as sweet, funny, loyal and special as Woody? I want to do him justice but I know no matter what I write, I won’t be able to. But I will try.

We brought him home for a fling, and like so many times in the past, he never left. But Big Boy was different because he was the first dog that I felt was really mine. We joked that I was foster mom #1 and Courtney was foster mom #2. I basically decided that he was going to stay until he got adopted, and yet Courtney put in much more work than me. I have a very busy schedule and Courtney was left to care for Woody often, which I owe her endlessly for.

In all the ways that he could control, Woody was the easiest dog ever. He would eat anything, wouldn’t dare pee in the house, and was the most tolerant dog I ever met. His many medical needs did make caring him very challenging at times, but we would do it a hundred times over if we could have our sweet big boy back. He was such a goofy dog and I spent so much time laughing with him around. He was clumsy and constantly knocking into things. He was a huge crybaby, crying when he wanted something, and I would very lovingly call him a drama king. I miss that so much. And Woody wanted nothing more than to be near us.

Woody was adored by our family and everyone who met him. My niece was especially obsessed with him, always laying on the floor and petting him or hugging him and giving him kisses on the head. Thank you to David for all of the bully sticks, picking up his meds, and always showing our boy love. Thank you to his fan Barbie for loving Woody from afar and donating to his laundry list of medical care. Thank you FFF staff for loving him whenever he was on site, and a huge thank you to Kelly and Andy for saving him in the first place and creating a place where sick dogs like Woody can know family and dignity in their final months.

I am devastated that I could not be there when he passed, and I so desperately hope that he did not think I had abandoned him in his final days. I try to ward those thoughts off with the knowing that I gave him a home full of so much love for his final months. He knew love, comfort, and family. He knew what it felt like to be spoiled. To ask for table scraps and get them. To cry for someone to move off his spot of the couch and they actually do it. He knew what it felt like to wake up in his own home, before the humans were up, barge into their rooms and demand attention. And be welcomed with hugs and pets and love. And he knew what it was like to have a family that would do literally anything for him. What I would give to be able to hold his head again and tell him in my goofiest dog voice how much I loved him and how good of a boy he was. I love you so so so much my Big Boy, with my whole heart, and I will miss you forever."

Age upon Rescue:
Date of Rescue: November 29, 2023
Date of Passing: January 12, 2024
Family: Alexandra Farber
Fans: C. Lek Tonarttanavin, Wesley Breneman

Tribute: Walter was relinquished to animal control back in November by his family. The director of Humane Society of Imperial County asked us to exit him from them because he had a perianal hernia, severe dental disease, and needed extensive care.

Unfortunately, upon rescue we did diagnostics and learned that Walter had a prostate mass which was likely causing the hernia where his bladder was trapped, and he had advanced kidney disease. If you looked at the guy, you would never know it. He was humping dogs in the play yard, crawling in laps, and cruising on walks. There were no viable treatment options, so we provided Walter with palliative care and reminded volunteers to please not overlook him despite how happy he seemed.

We are surrounded by such good people and Alexandra is one of them.

I will let her tell the rest of this love story.

"On Monday December 11, I was to give Walter the gift of one night in a home ….

One night became thirty two.

I knew immediately that I wasn’t giving any gifts but rather Walter WAS the gift — a most precious one — given to ME and I will be forever grateful. Thank you Kelly.

Walter was a very sick boy but he was also so very stoic and he had a gentle strong will. Walter wanted to LIVE to enjoy outings to parks, and restaurants, and to the beach, and car rides, and naps in the sun, and munching on apples and broccoli and green beans, and lots of snuggle time on the couch in the evenings with his sister (non FF Penelope) and me.

To see Walter have his tush up in the air and playfully and happily roll and push himself around and nudge his face into the rugs and his many beds with the softest little grunt every time he walked into 'HIS home' from wherever we were, and even just about every morning after receiving his dreaded 6AM sub-q fluids (once I got brave enough to give them to him myself), and after he ATE a yummy meal and his tummy felt full — this all gave me such joy! In those moments I said to myself 'he is happy' and I willed myself to never forget this. I also will never forget the day Walter found his voice — out of nowhere! And oh, what a loud one!! And how he’d stand so erect and so determined with that little tail of his wagging and wagging as he barked like a lunatic (or as I’d say with a smile 'like an a … hole') at most other dogs at the park and at the beach. It was so funny to see and it was music to my ears (though probably not to anyone else nearby).

I knew we were on such borrowed time even though there were moments, like those, when I honestly let myself be fooled into thinking maybe we’d have several months together.

I made sure to tell Walter every day 'your mommy loves you'. I hope he knew.

Walter made me smile, he made me laugh, and in the end on Friday January 12 he made me cry. I’ve had so many 'good-byes' like this — and of course not one is ever easy — but I have not had one for a couple of years. The heaviness and crippling pain that I feel in my chest is, sadly, all too familiar but it is one that I accept and embrace because it is the best kind of love. I feel just so lucky and grateful — I had thirty two nights with the sweetest, most special, 7lb, fifteen year old Frosted Face.

Forever in my heart my 'little man', my Sweet Walter. ❤️"

They shared,

"Its always hard to write these posts and not a day goes by that I don't miss both of my FF babies, but my most recent is my baby Roxy. I shared earlier that she wasn't doing well so it was not a surprise when we went in for her check up and Dr. Russell said that it was time.

What most don't know about my girl is that she wasn't to live much more than 2 or 3 days max. This little....strong....beautiful....loving girl lived 77 days and would have kept going if I asked.

She gave me kisses all day and night, whenever I asked and whenever she came close to my face. She helped me cope when I lost Button and gave me the most love 💘 anyone could ask for. She let me care for her all the way until the end.

I want to personally thank Kelly for entrusting Roxy's care to me. She really gave me one of the best gifts when she handed Roxy(LuLu) over to me 3 days before Christmas. Forever with you Roxy. Be free with Button to sunbathe and run and run and run!

Again and always.... thank you FFF for all the care and support.🥰"

Tribute: On January 23rd, we fulfilled our promise to Frosted Face Leah.

Leah came to us all the way from Sacramento Shelter. She had been impounded with wounds from what looked like another dog attacking her, and they warned us she was slow to warm up. They were right!

Leah was a scary little bugger at first, so much that we left a leash on her to lead her places and she would chase volunteers out of her space. Being so small and cute, it was laughable the amount of caution we used!

Intake diagnostics revealed that Leah was very sick. She suffered from IMHA and thrombocytopenia which in combination is called Evans syndrome. Leah was also in stage 2 kidney failure. We treated her accordingly, but she just got sicker and sicker where her kidney values sky rocketed- glomerulonephritis. She was hospitalized for two weeks and it wasn't enough. We gauged how well Leah felt based on how mean she was to us. Ha! If she growled and tried to bite us, it was a welcome relief. Unfortunately, Leah just got sweeter and weaker. It gave us the opportunity to hold her and prepare for goodbyes.

Christian held her little body as we all had our hands on her tiny feet, soft ears, and little wet nose as we released her from her body.

We love you, Leah.

Fans: Catherine Clemente, Carrie Ford

Tribute: We are so sorry to share that yesterday we fulfilled our promise to Peter Partridge.

Peter was originally surrendered to the shelter by his mom's daughter because his mom could no longer provide him basic care due to her failing health. We rescued Peter and he soon after was diagnosed with pneumonia which we treated and he recovered.

In the meantime, Peter was chosen to go to foster with Margaret Claytor. He enjoyed being loved in a home again and getting frisky with his foster siblings! Unfortunately just 4 days ago he woke up paralyzed. An MRI was performed

and demonstrated spinal cord compression between the T12 and T13 vertebrae, consistent with a herniated disc. We elected to do a hemilaminectomy to give him every opportunity to walk again.

When patients are unable to feel their back legs, they are also at risk for a condition called ascending-descending myelomalacia. This is a progressive condition that results in progressive spinal cord death which is ultimately fatal. While Peter did not signs of

this condition while in hospital, there was a small risk that he could still develop this up to 2 weeks after the initial injury. Signs of this are severe back pain, front limb weakness, or difficulty breathing.

Yesterday, Margaret rushed Peter to the FFF Vet Clinic because he was struggling to breathe. Myelomalacia was happening, it was awful and so unfair. We had to let him go.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to advocate for him. While we take calculated risks investing in big procedures based on hope, love, and research, we don't always get the outcome we desire. If we hadn't done this surgery for him, we would have always wondered "what if?"

Peter was a precious spunky morsel who in a blink had a freak accident somehow causing the herniation. It's why we live and love in the moment, and don't worry- dogs do too.

Thank you to Margaret and all of the volunteers and staff who loved Peter Partridge.

Age upon Rescue: 10
Date of Rescue: December 16, 2023
Date of Passing: August 28, 2024
Family: Emily & Jericho Gallardo
Fans: Yogi Grefe, Steven Jacobi, Jen G.

Tribute: On August 28th, Jericho and Emily fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Moose.

They shared,

"My husband and I went to the Walk for the Animals at Liberty Station. One of our two senior pitties had just passed away and we were keeping an open mind about adopting another one. As soon as we entered the park, there was Moose sitting in a wagon. My husband spotted Moose right away and immediately went to meet him. Moose’s foster mom said he was up for adoption. We went back to see Moose three times that morning, we knew he was something special. The following Sunday, May 12th, Mother’s Day, we traveled to Frosted Faces and adopted our sweet boy. He was the best Mother’s Day present I’ve ever received.

Moose was with us for less than three months. He had several health conditions that caused his precious life to be cut short. But while he was with us, he had one heck of a good time! We went for daily walks (short but sweet), he ate very well, putting on some necessary weight, and slept wherever he wanted, in nice, fluffy dog beds or couches. We have 11 dog beds and two couches and Moose slept in every single one of them! They were ALL his favorites since sleeping was his favorite activity!

Moose was loved by all who met him, human and animal alike. He was such a happy boy, even with all he was going through. My husband used to tell him…”duck, duck, Moose!” And Moose would smile his silly smile and wag his tail. We wish the love we gave him (along with his weekly vet visits) could have made him better, but sadly, it did not. He’s over the Rainbow Bridge now, healthy and happy and sleeping in all the dog beds up there too. We miss you Moose…until we meet again. 💕💔"
