Tribute: On July 29th, Jim and Ellen fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face to Frosted Face Davis.

Davis was brought to the shelter as a stray in terrible condition. Knowing what we know now, our guess is that he began having cognitive issues and was left in the back yard to suffer and die. He was tightly matted, dirty, head pressing, and spinning in circles.

Upon rescue, we got him groomed and started treating him with steroids and anticonvulsants for his seizures. Despite our best efforts, Davis didn't seem to improve, so we sent out a plea to families asking for someone to take him in to their home to see if getting him on a routine would help. If anything, just to give him some specialized care in the end of his life. Jim and Ellen answered that call, and took care of Davis with such compassion.

They shared,

"Davis was particularly hard because in most cases the dog knows they are spending time in a loving home, even if for a short time. Davis was just distraught. He must have had a very horrific life. We just couldn’t reach him. He wore himself out circling until he just lay down and slept for a few hours and then start all over again. He would let me hold him for a few minutes but then it was back to circling. I want to think there was a little spark of love that crept into his soul when we did hold him. He wasn’t aggressive or fearful at all. He just didn’t have it in him to connect anymore with us or the rest of the pack. He will always hold a special place in my heart."

"I can't believe I'm posting this, but my little Maximum (Majesty Max), aka Small Fry, aka Little Dude has crossed the rainbow bridge.

He was a super happy boy and always greeted me with tail wags and requests for lap time. He was very comfortable in my family and in my home. It was like he was always part of the pack. He declined quickly and while he had osteosarcoma in his jaw, it was his kidneys that ultimately failed him."

Tribute: On October 10th, we fulfilled our promise to Frosted Face Sasha Sugar Cookie.

Sasha had cancer throughout her abdomen, but primarily blocking her vena cava, preventing blood flow.

Sasha was surrendered to the shelter because her owner was moving, which truly seemed like a godsend considering her surrender notes indicated that she lived in the backyard her whole life. Sasha had the privilege of living in a foster home with Chris and Michele for a good amount of time.

They shared,

"The first time I met Sasha I knew I wanted to fling her, however, we had just adopted our previous fling and were headed out on a vacation. The next time I was up at Frosted Faces walking dogs I noticed Sasha was a bit lethargic and working on a cold. She got moved to medical and eventually diagnosed with pneumonia which hit her hard. In spite of feeling lousy she was just as sweet to everyone treating her.

Once she recovered we grabbed her for her first fling of 3 weeks. Due to her extreme emaciated condition we only took her on walks before sunrise or after dark. She loved to get out and take her time smelling the plants and her energy level and appetite increased day by day. There are so many sweet dogs but Sasha was on a completely different level always adapting to her surroundings and remaining motherly even to snappy little dogs. She was Mother Earth. Her favorite thing was meeting new people or dogs out on walks.

Sasha was the epitome of a lobbyist dog. She got along with everyone and everything, never made a peep, and was so happy to have the very basics we take for granted. She recovered fully from her pneumonia and we completed our fling hoping once back on site she would catch the eye of an adopter.

Several weeks later I noticed she was losing her appetite and weight in the kennel so we grabbed her again for a second fling. She proved once again what an amazing dog she was in the home. She was quite the foodie, would comply and get up for me at whatever hour I wanted to walk, sheltered over our dog while I instilled his eye drops to make sure he wasn’t harmed, and quietly just follow us around when she was awake. Sasha just wanted to feel she was wanted and part of a family. To hear she left us before this happened is truly sad but I hope she felt loved from the many volunteers and staff at Frosted Faces."
