Tribute: On December 7th, Jamie fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Leonard after discovering a bleeding heart based mass.
She shared,
"My cuddly, clumsy, taco stealing Leonard was with me for only 7 months, but what a 7 months it was. We were just starting to truly bond when the heart tumor was discovered and you were placed on palliative care. Broke my heart that I didn't have more time with you to give you the life and love and treats that you deserved, especially since you were entitled to so much more than the life you had before Frosted Faces. I loved every single second with you, even the tough times. Well, except for the taco stealing incident. You almost got sent back after that.
Leonard (kinda) embraced everything I forced him to do, from swimming to long car drives to wearing matching outfits. Next to laying on the couch, his other favorite thing was stealing my clothes... from shirts on the hangar to socks to underwear. I could hear him rifling through my bedroom until he found the perfect item of the day to proudly prance past me on his way to his bed. Every day he'd greet me at the door after a long day of work and would demand to share a couch that barely had a enough room for just me. Leonard was just such a happy dog.
I grateful for the time I spent with him and thank you, Leonard, for all the love and trust and happiness you gave me. Except for that taco.
I love you, you big goofball, and will miss you tripping on flat surfaces and and your big sad puppy dog eyes as you made your move onto the couch, so you could lay down on top of me. You were such a good boy and I will always miss you. 💕"

Date of Passing: January 3, 2023
Family: Frosted Faces Foundation
Fans: HB Admin in honor of Bugsy
Tribute: Today we fulfilled our promise to Frosted Face Cornelius.
We rescued Corny in the 11th hour from Riverside Shelter and he was immediately a favorite because of size and snuggability. We were treating him for a grade 4/4 dental disease, giardia, coughing, spondylosis, among other things.
Cornelius got to go on the rainy hike this weekend, he went to Balboa Park with Mari and John, he was held all of the time by volunteers like Greg and vet staff like Diana. He had a funny bossy side, and also a bird-like bark when he did not like something! We are just so sad to have lost Corny unexpectedly because he deserved to find a family and be loved for longer.
Thank you to all of the volunteers who show up every day for Corny and his friends to remind them that they are loved.

They shared,
"We are absolutely heartbroken and devastated. It's been a hard day as reality is setting in. Pecan consumed our lives for the last four months. Everything we did revolved around him and his schedule. We were all in. We miss his little nails tap tapping as he walked on our tiles, his little stinky breath, his funny little skips in the grass, and his yips and yaps to wake us up in the morning and to remind us when we were simply minutes off his meds schedule. Pecan was our lil dude, our swiper, our jedi. He was loved by all. He had a huge impact on our family and it will take a significant amount time to process and heal, but we'll get there. ❤️"

Jamie shared,
"February 6th, 2024 our hearts were shattered as we had to say goodbye to our sweet Stella. On March 12th 2023 we adopted Stella. One of the best days of our lives by far. Four days later she was diagnosed with seizures. Even with the difficulties of navigating a new diagnosis, she was one of the best decisions we made for our family. She brought so much joy and love to our lives. She loved her walks and wiggles on the grass. She loved smelling flowers and bushes as we walked in new areas. She loved being outside in the sun and feeling the breeze. You could see the smile on her face. That smile was all we needed to know that she was happy and knew she was loved. She was my favorite to cuddle with and we embraced the cuddles as often as she would give them.
You truly do not know how much you love someone until they are gone. Stella was our first Frosted Face and definitely not our last. She will forever hold a very large and special place in our hearts. We were extremely lucky to have had Stella in our lives for almost 11 months. We are grateful that we were able be with her while she crossed the rainbow and tell her how much we loved her and gave her as many kisses as we could. We are extremely grateful for the FF staff for all the love and care they gave Stella. She was loved by so many."

Tribute: On September 11th, Terry fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Missy.
She shared,
"I found out about Frosted Faces from my daughter, Holly, who volunteers there, and I decided I wanted a little dog, so I flew out to California to find the newest member of our family. I was really interested in a bonded pair, but after seeing them run out a door, I decided that was not for me. Holly took me into the Littles yard, and we sat on a bench. There was a Chihuahua they thought I might like, but she wasn't especially interested in me. And then I saw this tiny white dog waddling toward me, and she asked me for uppies, and I knew then that she was the one. She just tugged at my heart. I could feel our connection immediately. I flew home with that precious baby.
Once we got home, Missy seemed to settle in right away. Despite being mostly blind and deaf, she mapped out the house. There were four small fluffy beds, and I don't think she ever claimed any of them, but she would try them all out daily until she found the one she liked best. She was an easy eater, which was a good thing, because she was on a heart medication, but she ate anything if it was wrapped in meat and cheese.
One of my adult sons would come to the house and always asked about her, wanting to know where she was. If I had any trouble giving her pills, he would sit on the floor and feed her by hand. She was sister to non-FF Annabelle, a senior pug, and non-FF, Cali, a senior kitty, and she shared beds with both of them. Annabelle didn't always seem to like her, probably just jealous to share my lap and attention, but she misses her now that she's gone.
She enjoyed going outside, but I kept her close to me. She liked to wear a sweater even when it was warm, and she would roll around in the dried grass. She did well in the house, cuddling with me, enjoying the older grandkids more than the little ones. One day I noticed she was just a little off. She walked under a chair and couldn't seem to find her way out. In time, that got only worse. She also began to potty wherever she was, no longer waiting to be outside or on a puppy pad. Holly visited, and we did a QOL assessment. It was one of the hardest decisions to make. I never wanted her to be so confused and not knowing where she was. I knew that dementia had set in, and she was not going to get any better... Still, saying goodbye broke my heart."

Fans: Janet for our Gabbygirl, Mari Stein
Tribute: On February 8th, Susan fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Cookie.
We had just exited Cookie from the shelter where she had been surrendered after her owner passed away. She was fun-loving and bright. We sent her on a Frosted Fling with Teri Schroeder to get extra love, where she solicited adoption interest from family to the late Princess Peach.
Susan brought Cookie home ready to love her with her whole heart, but noticed she had a high respiratory rate. We had just done bloodwork and x-rays a week prior which were clear, but new x-rays showed she had severe pneumonia. We hospitalized her at Animal Urgent Care in and out of oxygen for a week with no improvement. Suddenly on the morning of the 8th, the vet called Susan and her daughter, Sandi, to urgently come to the hospital because Cookie was declining.
We had to let her go. Maybe she was being called to heaven by her mom? I would like to think so.
Cookie's new family shared,
"Even though she was very sick we knew that she had the sweetest soul. Her big brown eyes were soo loving. We hope that we made her feel loved in her last days. We would have loved more time with her. Rest in peace sweet little Cookie girl 💕"

Fans: Allison Landa, Donor in memory of Robert Rios
Tribute: On February 10th, we fulfilled our promise to Frosted Face Flotsam.
Flotsam and Jetsam were recently brought to the shelter as over the counter strays in terrible condition. Looking at the two of them, you would have guessed that Jetsam was in worse shape, but Flotsam's labs revealed that he was in stage 4 kidney failure with a UTI and pancreatitis. We hospitalized and treated him for two good stretches.
His values began to improve, he never stopped eating or walking all around curiously hopping from bed to bed. He and Jetsam moved into the Smíšek side of the house just in case a home environment would make for quicker healing. They watched movies, tussled over the water bowl, and followed us in the kitchen.
On the evening of February 10th, Flotsam passed away in his sleep curled up next to his brother. It wasn't something we saw coming being that we had just run recheck labs the day prior. We sure have had a stretch of dogs that we just wanted to fix and make all better, but instead, teach us to love big in the moment.
We will continue to hold Jetsam tightly until he finds a family. Thank you to all of the volunteers who loved Flotsam. ❤

Tribute: On August 19th, we fulfilled our promise to Frosted Face Jetsam.
Flotsam and Jetsam were brought into the shelter as over the counter "strays." Two dogs in terrible condition, Jet could barely stand. Much to our surprise, Flotsam passed away in his sleep just a week after rescue. He was battling kidney disease and pancreatitis, and he STILL looked better than Jet did on his best day.
Jetsam lived and lived and lived. He was the oldest old man at FFF, and everyone's baby at the same time. He lived on the "Smíšek side" of the FFF house where he got fourth meals before bed, and Andy propped him on his stick legs to "get his steps in" when he was antsy. If Glover barked at Jet from his bed, Jet was bark right back the most ridiculous bellow.
Jet got to have dental surgery which made him an even more vigorous eater, and we treated him for a pulled shoulder muscle. When I think about volunteers who spent the most time with Jet, Dolores De La Rosa, Kate Trinity, and Kari & Leif Nietz-Gigstad come to mind. Always holding him, doing butt baths, trimming up his little face, and feeding him snacks.
Melynie Whitener and Lisha Wiese took Jetsam to Big Bear for a Frosted Field Trip where he hung out in the cabin, played Yahtzee, and went on a stroller ride by the lake. He always attended the weekend hikes, and it was a contest to see which volunteer could sign up first to carry Jetsam along the trail!
At the end of the day, Jet was ours. Andy and I loved Jet as our own, held him on our chests while we watched TV, and tried giving him many kisses on the nose before he would chomp on ours! We knew it was time to let him go when he was not able to walk, which did not matter at all to us, but he would bark and bark and bark frustrated that he could not help himself. He lost weight and muscle mass ever so slowly in front of us that we hardly noticed, but now looking back at photos I see it.
We and the FFF staff all circled around him as we sent him to heaven.
Our baby bird... fly high.

Tribute: "On April 9th we fulfilled our promise to Iris (FF Stryker) after a short and intense battle with melanoma. It was just a few short weeks between her initial symptoms and the day we had to say goodbye, and it’s taken me almost a month to sit down and write a proper tribute. My heart is broken.
Iris came into our life as the rainbow after a stormy season, and boy did she ever live up to that name. She was more than a dog. She was my companion and in the 14 short months i got to be in her life she showed me a level of connection and a bond I’d never known with an animal before. Every single moment of her was a gift.
From day one she was perfect. I fell in love the moment our eyes met, and I knew she was home with me. Iris was pure love. She was gentle, intensely smart, playful, expressive, social, and she never ever met a person or animal that wasn’t immediately her best friend. She was my Velcro dog, and she had this incredible ability to embrace life with all its curve balls with grace, dignity, and insatiable optimism. She never complained when we added a new medication, or had to start diapering her overnight, and was patient with me as I learned new skills like giving b-12 injections. She helped me heal from a season of agoraphobia and opened my heart to living life out loud again. She reminded me to slow down, face the sun, and soak up life. She made me feel brave and confident…. She even became the unofficial mascot for the girls group at my gym!! She was more than a dog. She was an angel on earth.
In the weeks before she deteriorated, I took every opportunity to indulge in life with Iris. Taking her to her favorite parks and walking paths, setting up play dates with her social circle, and even doing a professional photoshoot to soaked up every single moment i could.
Two days before she passed, we threw Iris a 12th birthday party and celebration of life where we had a rainbow themed barkcuterie, bone broth mocktails with chicken apple sausage garnishes, and pup cups for the 7 doggos in attendance. After 14 months of very carefully keeping a strict diet, our Rainbow Baby got to eat everything she wanted.
Unfortunately, her condition turned very quickly after her party. The cancer had grown over her teeth. she was in tremendous pain, and she could no longer consume food. It almost feels like she was waiting for her last hurrah.
On Iris’ last day it was a perfect day. She got to enjoy the wind in her hair on the car ride to her favorite park. She got to get pet by strangers who “oo’d and ahh’d” over the little wolf. She sunbathed in the back yard and was surrounded by family as she took her last breath.
To say life feels empty without her would be a massive understatement. She was the light of my life, and I’m endlessly grateful to everyone who was involved in my getting to be her mama.
Thank you to her former owner for raising her to be the dog that stole my heart. Thank you to frosted faces and the incredible team there for making it possible for us to get her healthy and thriving before the final chapter of her life, and thank you to her sponsors for supporting us. Without all of you, the blessing she was to my life wouldn’t have been possible.
🌈✨Rest in Peace, my sweet puppy angel. ✨💖I will always cherish the days where I got to be the woman who ran with wolves."

Although we adopted him at age 16, I am so happy to say that Tito had the royal treatment with us, each and every day that we had together. He lost his best friend (and our other baby) a few weeks before Tito decided it was his time to go as well. I know they wanted to be together and that they are watching over all the people that have treated them so well and gave them a second chance at finding their family. Tribute: On August 17th, Lexi fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Kahlua.
This spring, Lexi's world turned upside down when she learned a close family member was ill. Lexi was a Kennel Manager at FFF at the time, and she knew she needed to return home to the East Coast to help her family, leaving her life in San Diego behind. Her family really emphasized to please don't do anything differently for them, but where Lexi knew what needed to be compromised, she brought all of her Frosted Faces home with her. At the time, she was fostering Kahlua, but adopted her to move her home with her too!
Lexi shared,
"My demanding lil Lu let me know she was all done in her tumor filled body🌈.
As unexpected as Kahlua’s adoption and this summer has been, I’ll forever be grateful for all the extra time together- she spent almost no moment alone. Lulu Bear’s days consisted of snoring away on my left arm, eating at least six buffet meals a day, snuggling Wayne, and letting me know it was time for one of her many diaper changes (man, could the girl poop). Big shouts to world’s best dog sitter (and baby sister), Katelynn, for being with her all the moments I couldn’t.
I’ll miss her tilty head, the way she calmed when I cradled her like a baby, and how she melted in for snuggles☕️💕."
