Family: Gerard & Anja Kroon
Fans: Frances Smith

Tribute: On November 13th, Gerard and Anja fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Ozzie.

They shared,

"It's with great sadness that we had to say goodbye to Ozzie (aka Elvis).

We loved Oz from the moment we saw him on July 23rd. He was one of the sweetest cats we've ever had. He felt at home from the first day he came into our house. In the past when we had to introduce a new cat into our family we would keep them initially in the spare bedroom so they could get used to the sounds and smells of their new home. Well, Oz decided differently. The moment we opened the carrier he walked out of the bedroom and into the living room and kitchen. He did a thorough check out and decided it was OK. He was not at all intimidated by the fact there were six dogs and three other cats already present.

Getting Ozzie to eat was a bit of a challenge in the beginning. He didn't like the food the other cats were getting. We tried a few different types of food and as a last resort tried Friskies. It turned out our Oz was definitely a Friskies man. He loved it (dry and wet food) and started to eat with gusto. Everyday he would be in the kitchen between the dogs when the food was being prepared. When we took his bowl to the spare bedroom so he could eat quietly he would follow us, running circles around us, looking up at his bowl and meowing loudly.

When we had our breakfast or dinner Oz would come over to the couch and check out our plate to see what was on it. Sometimes he would even try to steal some of the food !!! One day, when the dogs got an In-N-Out burger, Oz was checking it out as well. Gerard showed him a morsel and to his surprise he took it and ate it. He's the only cat we've had who liked burgers.

The other issue we had with him was his refusal to use the litter box. We tried all kinds of cat litter and also a herbal mix to lure him into the litter box but nothing worked. He would always do his business on the floor just in front or on either side of the box. Luckily we found common ground in the use of pee pads.

Although he was only with us for a short period of time we loved him a lot and we dearly miss him. His passing leaves a hole in our lives but it is getting filled with beautiful memories."

Tribute: On November 17th, Carleen fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Lindy.

She shared,

"Lindy gained her angel wings on Friday after a battle with health issues.

She was my perfect little beautiful, butterfly for only 10 short weeks.

I knew when I adopted Lindy we would not have a long time together but I hoped for more than a couple of months. All of our time was special together.

It is never enough time.

I loved her tremendously and I miss her so very much.

I am so very grateful to Doc Rusell for all the care, effort and support that gave Lindy and I more time together and more good days, and kept her comfortable.

I am so thankful for the love and comforting words of the vet techs who helped us get through the last couple of weeks and days.

Thank you Kelly and Andy for giving Lindy life! when she found herself lost and alone at 14 years old and not in the best of health at the shelter.

I am very sad and heartbroken to lose her but also blessed, that I was able to shower her with love and give her all my very best in a loving home and enjoy fun outings, and be her adoring Mom for the rest of her time here on earth. I just wish we had more time together.

I’ll send more pictures a little later to give her the beautiful tribute she deserves.

I love you Lindy and you gave me so much joy and happiness just to love and care for you.

You were so very much loved.

Your forever Mom 💔❤️"

Gus

Date of Rescue: July 31, 2023
Date of Passing:
Family: Lori & Peter Joyce
Fans: Delia Haust

Tribute: On September 12th, Lori fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Gus. We tried to remove a cryptorchid testicle that had a giant cancerous mass around it, but Gu did not thrive after surgery and we could not regulate his numbers well enough to keep him comfortable.

She shared,

"It is with a heavy heart I have to tell you that my dog Gus was put down on 9/13. He did well with his lump removal surgery until the evening of three days later. The surgical area started to swell, and by morning he was in much discomfort. I took him to Frosted Faces that morning, and they attempted to drain the surgery site, with little success. I was told to bring him back Tuesday if he didn't improve.

By Tuesday he could hardly walk. Upon doing blood work, they discovered advanced cancer, with platelet count at 21,000, which could result in a spontaneous bleed out. I made the heart wrenching decision to have him put to sleep that afternoon.

I only had him a short while, but because it was such a short while, there was so much I hoped for with Gus and me for the future. I'm still sad that he's gone. He was so sweet, affectionate and calm, I even started looking into having him be trained as a therapy dog, the kind that would visit hospitals and nursing homes.

Thank you for your care of Gus (and me). I would love to mention everyone who helped along the way, but I know I'd miss someone, which I wouldn't want to do. Everyone I came across was just amazing and thank you for making a tough time a little easier."

LL Drool J

Acquired from: City of Corona Animal Services
Age upon Rescue: 12
Date of Rescue: August 14, 2023
Date of Passing: September 1, 2023
Family: Tara Novak
Fans: Andrea Liesman

Tribute: On September 1st, Tara fulfilled her promise to LL Drool J.

"We were so lucky to have L with us, even if it was just for a short time.

We were at the vet for our other frosted face and wanted to take someone to Julian with us for an outing....

We asked Alicia and she asked if we wanted to take a very old man with us and of course the answer is "yes." She sad it was LL Drool Jay and I was so happy to get to spend the day with him. I saw him in a forget me nots post. Before he was even out to us my boyfriend accused me of crying, I have no idea what he was talking about... I had already looked up his health concerns and created nicknames for him, when I saw the post. It was a happy coincidence that we were going to spend the day with him but it took less than a minute to know he was coming home with us.

L was so sweet and we were so happy to introduce him to the household. He spent his first night in a crate, the following night he settled into his "co sleeper," a storage tote next to the bed so he was close, comfy, and safe. He slept cuddled with me in the bed for the first time on what turned out to be his last night. We got to be with him for only about a week but I'm so happy he was able to be a part of our home for his final days.

He was so sweet and we were so lucky to be his family at the end."

Age upon Rescue: 12
Date of Rescue: August 14, 2023
Date of Passing: April 24, 2024
Family: Joyce Floyd
Fans: Michelle Ashbarry, Juniper’s Mom

Tribute: On April 24th, Joyce fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Diggy Azalea.

She shared,

"Diggy crossed the Rainbow Bridge on April 24th. Sue King did an extended fling with her and was looking for someone to foster or adopt her, so I decided to foster her.

Diggy was pretty snappy when I first brought her home but after she got to know me she would relax into being held. She was able to get around pretty easily at first but as time went by she first lost the use of her hind legs and then was only using one front leg to pull herself around. I would carry her outside to go potty and then bring her back in. If she didn’t want to be in the bed where I put her she would get herself over to where she wanted to be. She had a fixation on being in FF Etta’s bed. Diggy would sit by Etta’s bed and Etta would turn her head so she couldn’t see Diggy. I guess Etta thought “if I don’t see her she’s not here!”

Diggy ate like a champ until the last couple of days. She was on a number of pain meds all along but started whining the last bit of her life. I took her to see Dr. Russell and the only thing we could do was give her more pain medication. I didn’t want to put her on any additional medication because sleeping all day isn’t quality of life.

I only had her for 6 months but loved her and miss her deeply.

Thank you to Frosted Faces for rescuing Diggy and to Michelle Ashbarry and Juniper’s Mom for being her fans."

Pawtrick Stewart

Acquired from: Lancaster Shelter
Age upon Rescue: 10
Date of Rescue: August 14, 2023
Date of Passing: December 6, 2023
Family: Nancy Bernstorff
Fans: Debra Obrzut, Jodi & Terry Deane, Lauren

Tribute: On December 6th, Nancy fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Pawtrick Stewart.

Pawtrick came to us with ulcerated squamous cell carcinoma on his abdomen and prepuce. When his labs, x-rays, and ultrasound looked okay, we opted to remove the cancer along with his prepuce to give him a great shot at a longer life.

He had grade 4 dental disease, so shortly after we did dental surgery.

Pawtrick got to spend some time in a foster home with Anne Case and Frosted Face Sasha. He was feeling great begging for food and jumping up on the couch! One day he stopped used one of his front legs and we tried to manage the pain with medication, where a joint tap and x-rays were not conclusive for a fix. We opted to amputate this leg to make him comfortable since he was hopping around as a tripod anyways!

Making these decisions for a dog you just want to help is so tough. We have no history, the dog is pleading with his little eyes to make him better, and sometimes, we are just too late.

There is nothing we wouldn't have done for Pawtrick, clearly. Even while battling these bigger issues we were treating a skin infection that just never seemed to improve despite cultures, labs, and a skin biopsy. One day, Pawtrick stopped using ANOTHER leg. We all knew in the back of our minds we were fighting a losing battle and x-rays confirmed it. Pawtrick had bone cancer.

Luckily, Pawtrick was chosen by FFF volunteer Nancy as a long term foster just weeks before so he could enjoy every last good day in a home. So much talk about what was WRONG with Pawtrick, but we kept fighting for him because he wanted to live and do fun things. That was Nancy's job, to treat him to family. He went to the dog park, slept on the cough, loved the company of her other dogs, and pressed his face into her hands for pets.

Nancy shared,

"Well, my FFF friends, it’s been a bittersweet day… Pawtrick/Mr P, my frosted foster, who overcame a few cancers and an amputation (and had a good morning today), started not using his back leg a few days ago and today was diagnosed with possibly yet another cancer. The decision was made to set him free💔. He’s been thru (pardon me) hell, but now Pawtrick has crossed the rainbow bridge and will see heaven!

🥹 My heart is hurting, but knowing I did all I could to give him a loving home makes it worth so much!

Rest in peace, my sweet boy!💜"

Tribute: On May 21st, Micah and Shoshanna fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Ellie.

They shared,

"On October 1st 2023 you chose us, Ellie. We met you in the littles yard. We were sitting on a bench. You came up to Papa and gave him your paw, then put your head in his lap. That was it. We were yours.

That first day they said you were really sick, maybe had a few months. We didn’t care. We wanted to love you. Mama held you in the back seat to keep you steady as we drove home. At Petsmart, you chose a werewolf toy and destroyed the squeaker before Papa could pay. Senior you may have been, but you were just a puppy. Happy, excited. Trusting. We gave you a warm bath, blow dried your coat, ate and cuddled together on the couch. The three of us together.

Our time was limited. Knowing this made every moment sweeter. We could hardly tell how sick you were. You were clever, vibrant and affectionate. Three days a week we drove you to see your friends at Frosted Faces. Mara, Diana, Michelle, and Rachel were always so warm and gentle with you. It is no wonder your tail wagged the hardest when they would call your name. They loved and cared for you sincerely and you loved them right back.

Your love was special, Ellie. Exclusive. Even our families had to love you from afar. Love bites were distributed. They understood. We wanted to show you off but you chose us, not them. Space is what made you comfortable. We had to learn. I assume we were enough.

You were the best pup and though our time together was short, memories of you fill our hearts. Your intimidating bark from such a sweet face, which we only heard a handful of times. On walks you ignored rowdy dogs, totally unbothered. You were mostly obedient, but the damn squirrels liked to tease. Jerks! And further more, street snacks during walks only displayed your elite foraging skills. Sorry we always had to take your findings away. Your mid air ball catches were effortless. Such an athlete. The smell of your coat after sun bathing. The way you would stare lovingly from the back seat of the car. Coming home to you. Holding your paw at all times. Watching you enjoy the church bells. How your lips folded in because all your front teeth were gone. Or your tongue poking out for the same reason. The way your tail wagged like a cows. Your soft belly. The way you would lean in to our legs for hugs. You have made our lives so rich. Ellie, thank you for being exactly what we didn’t know we needed.

Today is June 21 2024. One month ago today heaven took back its angel. After your spirit went to over the rainbow this song played; Billie Holiday “I’ll be seeing you”

So until we’re together again, lay in the sun and enjoy the finest meats. And we will enjoy every thing here that reminds us of you. Our hearts will always be full reflecting on those 8 months of the three of us together, the precious memories of loving you. Our sweet Ellie."

Mary Puppins

Acquired from: San Diego Humane Society
Age upon Rescue: 6
Date of Rescue: August 29, 2023
Date of Passing: October 10, 2023
Family: Christine Higgins
Fans: Linda Soule

Tribute: On October 10th, we fulfilled our promise to Frosted Face Mary Puppins after battling kidney disease.

Her foster shared,

"I went to Frosted Faces to ask about Flinging a particular dog. It was a busy afternoon so they asked if I would wait in the Littles yard for 20 minutes or so. As I'm sitting there petting some of the little guys, a sweet, skinny, brown dog shyly approached me asking for pets. She never left my side and I never stopped petting her, so when the time came to meet the dog I came for, I said 'I think my plans have changed.'

I loved this little shy dog for the few weeks we were together. In those precious few weeks, she started to wag her tail, play with toys and cuddle under a warm blanket as we sat on the couch.

I miss you sweet Mary. Thank you for picking me."

Sullivan

Acquired from: Victorville Shelter
Age upon Rescue: 7
Date of Rescue: September 8, 2023
Date of Passing: November 12, 2023
Family: Frosted Faces Foundation
Fans: Bonnie Sposato, Donor in memory of Zeus the Mastiff, Eve Hill

Tribute: Yesterday we fulfilled our promise to Frosted Face Sullivan.

Sullivan entered the shelter as a stray and all I can say is that I wish we had him in our lives sooner so that we could have loved him for longer. Sully knew SIT and SHAKE with both big paws. He was loved wherever he once was, and that makes me smile- he deserved it.

Almost immediately upon rescue we realized something was very wrong. He could hardly walk and his body seized up with pain. Further diagnostics led to the conclusion that he had bone cancer along with a painful bone infection that we treated. Sully rallied so many times with just a handful of bad days at a time, cushioned by SO many good days that bought us false hope. Last week, he had just started bisphophonate treatments to bring him relief and he cruised around the lobby and play yard despite his thinning frame that told another story of decline.

Sully went on the "hikes" aka slow walks on a trail, he went to the pumpkin patch, and was treated to a picnic in the park by volunteers with his "Lobbyist" friends. Countless volunteers laid with Sully on his bed during their shifts. Staff shared Sully as their own, making sure his meds went down, did he have to potty again from the pred, did he need water, was a bed free for him or did his friends steal his 🙂? All the questions of doting caregivers who wanted the best for him.

We know Sully LOVED cats (he was always game to participate in the cat tests), he peed on the vet scale all the time which was really weird and admittedly annoying! He chased you down the hallway as new dogs entered the lobby because he eagerly wanted to say "Hi!" Sully could surprisingly climb on the couch on his worst day, and preferred to be hand fed. Sully slept on the Smíšek side of the house when FFF closed, and he attentively watched the TV! That was very funny! Sully was a gentle giant, just ALL LOVE. ❤

As easy as Sully was to love, it's tough making decisions for a dog everyone feels invested in, and oh how we wish dogs could talk- right? Unfortunately, Sully made it easy.

Last night, Sully looked pale and his tummy was round and tight after dinner. He started to retch and you probably already know what I am going to say- he bloated. We knew immediately and loaded him into Andy's car. He rushed him down to Animal Emergency Clinic of San Diego in Poway. X-rays showed torsion, and Andy called me to share the news. Just minutes later, he called again to let me know that sweet Sully had started to pass away, so the vet snuck him into the back from the exam room so that he could hold our boy---- your boy---- to send him on ahead of us.

We love you, Sully.

Fans: DS, Alexandra Farber, Clive & Cora

Tribute: On July 30th, Kari and Leif fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Feebee.

They shared,

"We truly enjoyed our 10 short months with little Feebee. She had a number of struggles including blindness, difficulty hearing, kidney issues, weak hind legs, and progressive cognitive decline, but she always did her best.

She loved to curl up near someone she knew whether it was me, my husband or our shih tzu, Columbo (FFF Vlad). Feebee also enjoyed many a prance through the neighborhood or park. She had a cute little trot, and neighbors would often comment on how adorable she was. If she smelled someone new in the house, she let out a very specific warning bark. She knew she was responsible for guarding her new pack.

Unfortunately, two months ago, the medications we used to help keep her calm at night stopped working. She would wander for hours and bark quite often. We could not find a magic formula to provide her with the comfort she seemed to be looking for.

With the help of everyone at FFF we finally decided that this was not a great quality of life for Feebee and she crossed the rainbow bridge on 7/30/24. We are grateful for our time with that little angel and very sad that we could not have more."
