Tribute: On November 26th, Heather and Isaac fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Happy.
Happy was surrendered to the shelter with canine sibling, Liesha, and feline sister, Merry Merry when their mom passed away. We exited all three of them, leaving no one behind.
We quickly placed Merry Merry into a foster home, and Heather made the very special decision to foster both Happy and Liesha together. Unfortunately, Happy was in stage 4 kidney failure, and after ruling out all possible causes and offering him supportive care for 4 days, it was clear that Happy was ready to go to heaven to be with his mom.
Heather shared,
"We added a new dog to the family today because every dog deserves a family as they cross the rainbow bridge.
I was very sure that Happy would spend a couple days at my house, we’d find his favorite food, he’d destress a little bit, and finally live up to his name. Unfortunately, he got sicker and sicker. His kidneys were failing and there was nothing we could do to save him.
He wasn’t with us very long, but you could tell what a good boy he was. Happy would flop his head back and roll over for tummy rubs and was so tolerant with crazy Ancho.
I wish we could have loved you longer, Happy.
Liesha is doing okay and we are cuddling her extra tonight. "

Tribute: On November 22nd, Sue fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Mezzi.
Mezzi entered the shelter as a "stray" in terrible condition. As soon as we rescued her it was clear that someone struggled to take care of her because she had doggie dementia. She was lucky to be groomed clean, given meds for comfort, and be sent to heaven with dignity in Sue's care.
She shared,
"Mezzi’s time with me was short, and although I had hoped for more, it wasn’t meant to be. Mezzi was blind with glaucoma and high pressure in her right eye, and CCD. She seemed to enjoy the first few days here, and spent time wandering the yard in the sunshine. Mezzi would only allow me to hold her for a minute or two before she struggled to get out of my embrace. She ate well and I held her bowl for her to keep her focused and eating. Sadly her CCD symptoms increased with tight, fast circling where she’d lose her balance and fall over. I’d pick her up to try to break the cycle, but she’d struggle to get down, and start the cycle again. If she wasn’t circling, she was sleeping, falling asleep as soon as I took her outside. Inside the house, where previously Mezzi could wander for quite awhile before getting stuck, she seemed to find place after place to scrunch into and then cry for help. Her last day she didn’t want to eat, and when I took her outside, she just sat with her head down. I wanted to give her more time, but looking at Mezzi, I knew the kindest thing would be to give her peace. I held her head in my arms, putting my head against hers and talking softly to her. Alicia and Christian were there, petting her as well to offer her comfort as she crossed over. Mezzi, you were special and loved. Rest peacefully ♥️
