Tribute: On January 8th, we went up to Lancaster to rescue a handful of seniors. While we were there, Rusty was being surrendered by his dad for euthanasia. He was in a little outfit and they said they spoon fed him. A quick veterinary exam with no diagnostics led the shelter to ask for a rescue exit versus euthanasia.

We agreed to help and loaded him up! Our bloodwork and x-rays didn't show anything too crazy, so we were instructed to monitor his quality of life. We are so grateful that time tested foster offered to take Rusty on a 2 week Frosted Fling! Rusty got to live "sling life," wear outfit, and continue to be spoon fed. Rusty appeared to be losing weight, but still toodled around curiously!

Upon his return to FFF, he was adopted by another wonderful family, The Babbitts, who have cared for a number of Frosted Faces. They did not get enough time with him, and he passed away soonafter. They shared,

"Rusty, you came to us when the world had left you fragile and weary. You didn’t have much time, but it was enough for us to show you what love truly means. In the short moments we shared, you reminded us that even in the smallest chapters of life, there is an opportunity to write a story of connection, care, and kindness.

You left this world cradled in love, wrapped in my wife’s arms as she danced with you and whispered what we hope you felt in your heart: you were ours, and we were yours. You weren’t alone, Rusty. You were home.

Rusty, your time here was brief, but your impact is everlasting. You reminded us of the power of love and the dignity every soul deserves, no matter how many days remain. You are gone from our arms but will forever remain in our hearts.

Run free, sweet boy. We’ll carry your memory with us until we meet again.

Hindsight is 20/20. I wish we would have offered to help Rusty be put to sleep in dad's arms. He wanted to do what was best for him, and maybe he didn't have the means. We are so grateful all of these nice families helped Rusty in his last days.
